Manual trtacking with Phillips CDR 778

I just replaced a phillips cdr 665 with the CDR 778. I was told that a lot of the earlier bugs had been worked out, and that seemed true.
However, I can't manually advance the tracks. I have reset the auto track off and tried using the remote as indicated in the manual but nothing happens.
I have tried to find a phillips website for technical support but struck out.
Anyone with any idea?
