I visited my local Circuit City and they had the 901 hooked up to the Polk Monitor series. The surround sound was ok but the CD I took sounded kinda harsh. I am a newbie at this, so I was wondering what is a good combo for the Onkyo 901.

Take the RTis over the Monitors for Polk.

Look at Paradigm, Energy, Infinity, and Axiom for starters. Try to audition as many speakers as you can.

People can only tell you about build quality and materials, the true testament is from the ears, and that's very subjective.

Most surround sound receivers don't do music well. Better to go with traditional stereo receivers for music.

I think they sound good on movies as well.

Companies like puccini, NAD, B&K sound good for the money.
