Ive been told u can really only upgrade ram in a laptop. I was wandering if they have external graphic cards? My laptop has a rinky dink radeon hd 4250 in it. but has a hdmi port on it so i can hook it up to my tv through that but i still lag real bad while trying to play dragon age 2. I'm wondering if there is a way i'ld be able to get at least 1gig of dedicated graphics?

What model laptop do you have? It can be done, but it will take some work and finesse. If you are not handy with electronics, have it done professionally. How old is the lap top?

The unfortunate thing is that graphics card is integrated and you need specialized knowledge to remove it and install a new card. The best thing to do is upgrade your memory and hope for the best.

Unless that unit is PCIe Gen 2.0, you really can't do a swap out.

Or you can try this, since you've touched on external graphics card.
