My laptop lcd screen has gone black!

DELL inspiron 8200 - display
NVIDIA GeForce4 440 GO

I was installing microsoft office 2007, after the system rebooted, the screen whent black, the laptop is runing, i can turn on and off caps lock, you can see some light on the screen, a connected a external monitor, but does not work, i managed to start in safe mode with the external monitor, i download the latest driver for the video controler,

the display adapter is : NVIDIA Geforce4 440 go, i used the system restore but did not work. any help please, the laptop is no mine if i do not fix it, i will have to paid for it.

I also encountered the same problem half a year ago. You can try to connect the laptop to a regular monitor to see if it is the laptop display. If it works as normal. Maybe the flex cable that passes from base to screen. Then you can try to boot to a floppy. If your laptop lcd screen works, that would be an indication of an operating system.
