I want to upgrade my 2006 Chevy Cobalt Coupe's sound system. My budget is approx. $500. I possess these (http://oi40.tinypic.com/34japa9.jpg), they were a gift. Thinking of purchasing this amp(http://oi39.tinypic.com/1221d2r.jpg) and this sub (http://oi43.tinypic.com/1zh1vd4.jpg). Stock rears will stay, without being powered by the aforementioned amp, if possible.

Will this even work? Am I missing anything? btw I'm not very familiar with ohms, rms, watt, et cetera.

I would't buy the small 8" sub, for example a 10" JL Audio w1v2 in a 1.2 cuft ported box will do way better on the same power.

I am guessing you intend to use 2 channels for the components and 2 bridged for a sub.

I appreciate your input. I've found a good price on a Jl sub, and am currently looking for the box you recommended. It took me a while to figure out what you meant by the channels. I assume that 1 channel goes to the right speakers, 1 to the left, and 2 to the woofer (pretty much new to all of this). Why would bridging the woofer be recommended? And if I wanted to improve iPod functionality, would I have to install a different head unit (current one is stock)? Currently I am able to hear my iPod, but it run's off an fm station and has static.

You bridge the amplifier to double the power handling that goes to the sub. Furthermore if you want to get a bit louder a 75Wx4 amp would be best.

A new HU would greatly improve sound quality of your system, if you can do that it would be best, There are some workarounds but are not that cheap and will not give best results.

Perfect. I could pick any aftermarket HU right? Or do I have to match it with my setup? (it obviously has to be compatible with my vehicle)

Ok Ken, Kenwood is ok for HUs, Pioneer, Alpine are better but coming from a stock HU will sound like heaven anyways so is up to you to seek alternatives or not.

The amp is good, your speakers can take more power so also is up to you to get a more powerful amp or not.

The enclosure has a tuning frequency that is too high for that sub, 30-35 Hz would be better for most subs on a daily setup so take a minute to see if you can find something tuned lower if you want a more solid bottom end.

It's good equipment anyways and will sound incredible against any stock audio.

Alright, I'll find a lower tuned enclosure, and look into more HUs and amps. Thanks for being so helpful Joe. Thank you.
