I have a small vehicle and I need to go with a single amp solution. My budget is is about $180 which does not leave me with a lot of options. I have the following speakers:

Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-DB6501-6-5-Inch-Component/dp/B000P0R6LQ

Polk Audio db691 6" x 9" 3-way Car Speakers

Boston Acoustics G312-4 12"

These are my options as far as amps go:

Boss CX1800 Chaos Exxtreme

BOSS AUDIO Chaos Epic 5 Channel Amplifier CE2505
http://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Channel-MOSFET-Amplifier-CE2505/dp/B004S4XLYG

Planet Audio AC1800.5 MOSFET Five-Channel Power Amplifier
http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-AC1800-5-Five-Channel-Amplifier/dp/B003GSLE4O

Soundstream RUB5.800 5-Channel Amplifier
http://www.amazon.com/Soundstream-RUB5-800-5-Channel-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00273CGI2

I want something affordable, but reliable. I am not sure that's possible in my price range, but any help would be appreciated. =)

Well, the Soundstream seems your best option there but for the same area and the same $180 or so you can get *easily better quality* and more power:

Soundstream footprint: 8" x 20"

$69 footprint: 8" x 9" 240W RMS@4 ohm bridged for the sub.

$109 footprint: 12" x 9" 70W RMS@4 ohm x 4channels

Will those two amps draw more power than the single 5 channel? It is going into a tiny Toyota Echo, I don't want to kill the alternator...LOL. The alternator is either 70, or 90 amps at best.

Both the Soundstream and the MB Quarts are class AB amps, the fact that you have all channels in one box does not mean that it will drag less current.

Anyways you are planning on small power, people can start having problems on systems above 1000 - 1200W RMS, either the SS or the MBs are far below on power to cause any damage.

Thank you, Joe! I appreciate the knowledge. I will probably just get the 5 channel because I am new to this, and it would be a cheaper installation on one amp. If I had the extra cash, I know the two amps would be the way to go.

Ok Scott, I just intend to give some options, if I knew about a 5 channel amp ok alternative at the price I would have mentioned it, it's just that since the 5 channel amps make a neat install, quality companies price them accordingly.

Someone on another forum recommended a Cadence F100-5, are you familiar with Cadence amps?

Prices vary on that item..lol:

Not enough to recommend it. Soundstream being in the value segment can't offer anything that nice for the price. I wouldn't bet on that one but if you are feeling lucky.. go for it!

Maybe a Rockford Fosgate R600-5 would be a good choice for you if you were willing to up your budget just a little bit. I have an Alpine PDX-5 and I love it for my current setup. I haven't heard anything good about BOSS Audio products, but Soundstream isn't too bad.
