So I am probably getting stationed in Europe next year, so that means I will be getting a different car. I plan on putting a little bit more serious of a system in it than what I currently have in my car here in Japan. I will probably be going with some Focal Polyglass or Rainbow(if my budget allows) components. I have heard nothing but great things about Sundown from everyone on this forum, so I have been been considering getting a SAX-125.2 to power whatever components I choose to get. Anyone else have any other suggestions (under $300) for a SQ amp to power a pair of components? I currently have a PDX-5, but i want something with a little more power and I want a dedicated amp for the highs and subs later as well.

Focal is great SQ, Rainbow as well but they are different kind of sound, DLS, Dynaudio are also excellent, some lesser but still great SQ brands are Diamond, Morel, Cdt, Hertz all have some good offerings.

For Amps Sundown makes some thunderous class D amplifiers but it's not really a SQ brand, if you want SQ amps, you can go for used old school amps some could be Zapco, early Nakamichi, PPI art, a/d/s, LP and McIntosh of couse, newer SQ amps are Audison, Arc Audio, Eclipse, DLS are all great and even new Phoenix Gold to a lesser extent.

I had an Eclipse head unit back in the day and I loved it, but I guess I wasn't aware that their amps were all that great. I have found an Eclipse XA2000 (100W RMS x2 @ 4ohms) on Ebay and Amazon for around $160 that seems like it would suit my needs. Anyone have any experience with Eclipse amps?

The Eclipse XA2000 is class D, class D is allows for energy savings and cost effective implementation but class A/B amplifiers are where true SQ is at currently. Some companies such as Rotel have been trying to market full range class D amps but without much success.

If you'll be in Italy, and want outstanding car audio amplifiers, look at a company called Sinfoni.

Focal solid is no better than other upper end mainstream amps like your Alpine, I would easily prefer a JL slash over it.

Higher end Focal amp$ have much better specs but I wont lie, I have never heard them, at 700-800 you may be able to get some nice McIntosh instead.
