I'm new to the car systems just hooked up everything. Looking for help with tuning so i get the best bang for my buck. I have some sort of an idea but could alot of help. I also have 2 boxes. a sealed box and vented box.

I have 1 12" JL W3 powered by a Alpine MRP-M500

Sub details:

power range: 100-500 watts RMS
peak power handling: 1,000 watts
frequency response: 22-200 Hz

amp details:
mono subwoofer car amplifier
300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
variable low-pass filter (50-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
variable bass boost (0-12 dB at 50 Hz)

set ur low pass filter at 60-70. leave ur bass boost nice and low... use ur head unit for that. u do realize that ur amp is putting out 300 rms out of the 500 the w3 can take since it is 4 ohm. so if i were u if definately use the ported box since generally they dont require as much power to perform

Kenwood amps are crap so avoid that.

JL subs do well in sealed boxes so I would use that unless you know that the ported one is tuned properly... if it's prefab it will suck.

Try a JL Audio 500/1 for that sub. Perfectly matched and I bet you can find one for that price or less. Here is one http://cgi.ebay.com/JL-AUDIO-J2-500-1-MONO-CAR-AMPLIFIER-BRAND-NEW-/280503703377 ?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Car_Amplifiers&hash=item414f52d751
