I am installing an older jvc s590 stereo radio in my car. The metal case as well as the installation manual lists the wires and connections completely for hookup. My question is,there are two additional wires (orange/ orange-white stripe). What are their function, and can I just cap them off?

test them with a DMM.
they are probably for illumination and something like amp remote trigger.

Illumination (solid orange) will test with 12v whenever the parking lights are turned on.

Dimmer (orange/white) will have voltage whenever the parking lights are on, but the voltage will vary with the position of the dimmer switch that controls the instrument panel lighting...so it might measure 12v at full brightness, and down below 5v as the lights are dimmed.

Of course, not all vehicles have both wires present behind the head unit.

They can be capped off with no problems.

Eric

Usually a orange wire is for the electric antenna and the other for dimmer, that can be for the clock also!
