i had my system hooked up previously to my aftermarket hu and it sounded fine. now i have it hooked up to my stock hu on my new car and i have to have my gain almost 3/4 up in order to get my sub to move. is this gonna damaged my sub since it was used to a lower set gain? any help would be appreciated

cuz the signal coming from the head-unit is not as good or as much as the aftermarket one...

Most good HU's can put out a 4V signal, the cheap one's are more in the 2.5 range which makes you have to turn the gain up higher on an amp...

no harm, no.
all this means is your source line voltage is much weaker, so you need to turn up the gains on the amp to balance that lower voltage to the input stage on teh amplifier.
