Question on gain realization

from all the answers Ive heard so far it sounds like either the new alternator is too powerful or I need to change the alternator cables. Does this sound right and if so which one seems more likely? Thanx whoever.

if the amp is shutting off, the gains may be set too high.
if the gains are properly set and the subs don't hit hard enough, this means you need a bigger amp.
you can't use the gains to make up for lack of sufficient power.
many people try though. all they do is make the amplifier clip, and eventually damage or blow the speakers.
