i have a fosgate amp (the older ones, 800 rms) right now and it's performing fine. but my wallet's itching and i was thinking of a change to my system. so i thought maybe i can power my subs (type r's) with a new amp. i came across the hifonics 1000 watt class d amp. you guys think this is too much power for the type r's? and also, do you think this will make a change to how loud my subs get?

The hifonics are grat amps also. I wouldnt say its too much power just be smart with your gains and you will be fine.

Well the more you turn up the gain the more power you are pusing to your subs so yes it does have something to do with it. Please think before you speak.

Actually, gain sets the input sensitivity. If your head unit is already an Eclipse on an amp that can only be sensitive to 8 volts, then you can't turn down the gain. But if you have an amp that's sensitive to an 8V RMS signal, and your head unit only puts out 4, then the power output will be half of its capability.
