Amplifier / subwoofer power ratio

I've heard that when building a system, for the best sound the amplifier wattage needs to be twice the subwoofers peak wattage. And is it a good idea for a 800 watts mono amp to push a 900 rms watts sub(all audiobahn).

first of all, never look at the peak ratings of subs and amps. look at the rms watts, which is the true value. secondly, it is best to match the wattage of your amp to the speaker, or at least be very close. an audiobahn amp with 800 watts rms is perfect to push a sub that handles 900 watts rms.
