Well if I get a 1 ohm amp for now and hook it up to 2 12"s that are dual 2 ohm...will it mess up the subs....even if I turn the gain way down..?

whhoa wait. you can wire 2 D4 ohm subs to 1 ohm
you can wire 2 D2 subs to .5ohms which most amps cant handle. you have to be careful wiring subs.

um no dude, you have a possibility of blowing your amp, if you have 2 duel 2 ohm subs you can wire ONE of them down to a 1 ohm load, but if you have 2 you can't wire them down to a 1 ohm load...

1 DVC 4OHM= 2 or 8 ohms
2 DVC 4OHM= 1 OR 4 OHMS
1 DVC 2OHM= 1 OR ? OHMS
2 DVC 2OHM= .5 OR ? OHMS

ha im not sure the subs are capable of "dueling" like you say but your first two are right and the last two are
1 DVC 2OHM= 1 OR 4 OHMS
2 DVC 2OHM= .5 OR 2 OHMS

He was asking about 2 D4 subs which can be wired to 1 or 4 ohm.

2 D2 can be wired to .5ohm or 2ohm.

1 DVC 4OHM= 2 or 8 ohms
2 DVC 4OHM= 1 OR 4 OHMS
1 DVC 2OHM= 1 OR 4 OHMS
2 DVC 2OHM= .5 OR 2 OHMS

^^fixed for ya.

nope I am getting ready to buy a 1600 Brutis Hifonics Amp Class (in reality 1200 watts) and I am going to utilize my 2 infinity kappas (the old ones) and I think they are dual 4 ohm...so since this amp is a mono block and only runs a 1 ohm I need to make sure I can still utiliz my subs until I get something else (mabye a 12" RE SE ported :-) )

"so since this amp is a mono block and only runs a 1 ohm"
not trying to pick apart your words but thats wrong. a monoblock amp can work at any impedance(that most car subs can present) the load causes the output to be more or less.(except for the continious power amps) your amp will work at at any impedance that you subs can present as long as the amp is safe at whatever ohm load you wire it to.
you can use that diagram that paul posted as long as the sub are dual 4 ohm

no ofense takin'. I really appreciate the info. See I am still learning..I have been in to car audio for a long time. I have never been a member of a message board talking to knowledgable people though. I have always learned everything on my own. Thanks, Nick.
