Do you have to match the ohms together to get the best sound? for an example kicker l5 at 600 watts rms at 4 ohms with an lightning audio strike amp 600 watts rms at 4 ohms?

you have to match the ohms together. if you're wiring your sub for 4 ohms then the amp will be powering at 4 ohms... you just have to make sure that whatever resistance you are wiring to, the amp is capable of delivering. (lower is more resistant) but if your question is if you had to match the watts together, no... a 600w rms sub could be powered with as little as about 100 watts rms although that's not recommended. you should aim for an amp around 600w rms for the best sound and even a little higher if your budget allows it. Which doesn't look like it does if you're going with lightning audio.
