after doing the intake in my car I decided to bolt on the new alt and wiring.

Is that car unibody or full frame? If it's full frame you did that ground wrong.

With unibody you can ground to anywhere on the body.


If the vehicle has a frame, you would need to ground to that, as the stock wires would. On a full frame car the body sits on rubber body mounts and is grounded via ground straps to the frame. Connecting a heavy gauge wire to the body wouldn't help since its grounded though a small ground strap.
