How do you locate the + and - of the alternator in the Volvo? I want to connect these 3 wires to these places: - Negative from alternator to chassis.
- Positive from alternator to battery.
- Negative from battery to chassis.

You can use a test light to find the positive output on the alternator and just tap the negative around the alt mounts from the test light to find a ground but you should use a digital multi meter to find the best possible contact area. You can also trace the wire hooked up to the battery positive back to the rear of the alternator.

Take a look at where your belts are run.Your alternator's pulley is driven by a belt so it shouldn't be too hard to spot.Like I said up above you can trace the power wire from your batt back to your alternator. If you don't have a multi meter(they cost 20 bucks) you can use a test light but it's not as good for testing certain things(they cost about 5 bucks).
