I got a friend that needs a new amp for his 12W7. He doesnt wanna blow 750 on a new JL1000/1 and a kicker or a orion would be fine. he just needs a amp that will push it and i know the 3 ohm impeadance complicates things. what do you think?

the hifonics will be okay for that sub

the 12w7 is a single 3 ohm voice coil... it can only be wired to 3 ohms...and it is 750 rms

the amp....

RMS @ 4-Ohm: 1 x 450-Watt
RMS @ 2-Ohm: 1 x 900-Watt

so it will give the sub somewhere between 450-900 watts, but hifonics overates their amps a little...so it will get maybe 500-600....700 max

so that amp will be fine...

more watts would be better tho for that sub

You could get a used JL 1000\1 for under 5 on ebay. That's a really nice sub and desrve a nice amp. Stay away from hifonic.

If you're going to buy a cheap amp for JL12W7, then you might as well trade in that sub for Pyle/Pyramid/Sony.

"Have you checked the label/warning on the gas cap?"

Hang on let me go check it on my Porsche parked in my 50 car garage.Oh wait...I can't afford a Porsche,damn.Lol...oh no...6 octane difference.Put regular in that tank and I guarantee it will run.It won't perform as it's supposed to but it will still run.Pretty much the same thing with Audis, they say only premium but I know a guy that runs his on premium only in the winter and regular in the summer/spring and his car still runs/drives.Is it good for the car?Probably not.Does it work?Sure but with pros and cons.

yea this guy did not want to blow alot of dough on an amp. he had a JL 1000 on it but it was going into protect because of voltage drops. the hifonics will be fine. might not pound as hard but hes past the stage of loud bass, just wants some bump with great sq.

Rob I'm guessing you just like to argue. You, however have missed the boat.
Analyze my statements VERY carefully and you'll see. Never said you couldn't use regular gas on Porsche, just as you can use ANY amp with JL12W7. The comparsion was, like spending extra money to get something good, then cutting corners. As you know, anyone rich enough to own a Porsche, will never ever use regular gas on it. It's clearly stated on the gas cap and manuals.
So by using Pyramid/Sony/Pyle amps on JL W7 is similar in comparsion to a Porsche and regular gas. You could do it, but makes no sense at all.
C. Reming, if your original problem was JL amp going into protection cause of voltage drop, what makes you think lower quality amp like Hifonics would perform better? It might even distort/clip more and eventually blow the sub.
It's ironic that you mention "great sq" with Hifonics.

Why would you spend over 500 buck on a sub to run it off a 200 amp. Makes no sense. Just save money and buy the JL 1000\1.

Quit being stupid and saying a pg or kicker would be the perfect amp. The only PERFECT amp would be the 1000/1 or next quaters maybe (early 08 2000/1). JL subs are designed and tested with JL amps. The w7 specifically is tested and designed with a regulated power supply. Why would anyone say an unregulated power supply is the perfect match?

yeah, that makes no sense at all^^. so you're saying since kicker subs are tested with kicker amps then those are the only PERFECT amps to run their subs off of?

^ Look up PERFECT in the dictioary. Other amps are usable. You make yourself sound really dumb with a post like that^.

Perfect

Having all the desired qualities.
Having no flaws or shortcomings.
Correct in every detail.

And the Phoenix Gold X600.1 falls under the above.IMO

I recommend a JL 500/1 for a 12W7. Especially if you go ported for the box.

1000/1 for two 12w7's.
