New member Username: Clay350zRockmart, Ga Usa Post Number: 1 Registered: May-07 | no 12 volt system is capable of supporting an amp of that size for long.Amps that large were built to compete with .If you make sure you use good wire(true 0 gauge w/ a high percentage of copper)your grounded at the frame,multiple fast charge/discharge batteries(kinetic,stinger),and a H.O. alternator then all you can do is hope it was enough to get the full potiential of the amp for a 30sec. run.Great amp to compete with but a waste of money otherwise. |

Gold Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 1326 Registered: Mar-04 | Let's look at it realistically -- Say 6kw at 1 ohm Accounting for efficiency of 75% 6000/.75 = 8000w 8000w/13v = 615A To produce 6000w rms at 13v the amp would require 615A. However - the only signal that would require 6000w rms would be 0dB sine waves at full volume. If you listen to music you can divide that 615 by at least 3 - depending on music type you can divide it by 4, 5 or more. Anyway - 615/3 = 205A That's the most possible current that amp will require listening to some bass heavy music at full volume. Depending on the music type it could run closer to 150A. Then - assuming you turn it down once in a while it's quite possible your rear world current draw may only be around 100A. So to answer your question - yes, I think a 200A alt and a couple good batteries may get the job done. I would install a good volt meter though (not a cap). That's the type of amp that will make quick work of your charging system if a battery/alternator develops a problem. |
