im currently running 2 10 inch PG Xenons on a JL 500/1. i want to upgrade to an amp that will push them to their max. how many watts should i think about running to them or is the 500/1 pretty much working them to their max? should i go to a 1000/1. what do you guys think? any amps that are better i should go for moneys no problem right now. (yes i might get new subs too).

If i were you, I would get new subs. and a nice amp to push them. I am currently running 2 alpine type R's, and my kx1200.1 should be coming in the mail soon. The Type R's are in a ported box and im sure u've seen pics. Is space a factor for you? If not, give me a price range for subs, as well as like 1x 15", 2x 12" 2x 15" or still 10's.

Ivan, you need about 900W rms for those, that JL puts out 700W rms tops. You need another 100W per woofer, but I'm not sure that'll be audible.

The subs are not bad at all...You could look for a Crossfire VR 1000 or EDnine.1... that will give you the power you are looking for. I just ordered a Nine.1 for 2 12 SD2.5.

JL has excellent best build quality.

They are quite overpriced though.

JL Amps ARE underrated, roughly by 40%. I have googled, and found proof of it, you should be able to do the same if you're curious.

JL amps are not underrated by 40%, that is hillarious! If your lucky the 500 will give you maybe 600 rms if your lucky more like 580, that isn't 40%, lol. JL has a nice build quality but for "bang for buck" factor they aren't all that great. Also if you decided you wanted to raise your battery voltage it would do you absolutely no good due to the regulated power. they put out there benched power from 11-14.4V which is great for a vehicle where someone doesn't want to upgrade there electrical but I wouldn't buy one..

Glasswolf himself said most birthsheets on JL 500/1 say around 667W rms or in that neighborhood - I'd believe that over other speculations.

Buying gear from the states goes up exponentially. Customs, brokerage, shipping, currency conversion kill us :-(

a $315USD amp comes to about $560CAD after its all paid for.

a $350USD sub comes to about $620CAD after its all paid for.

It hurts :-(

Well I have to say Glasswolf is wrong on this one because JL slash amps do not come with birth certificate. And trust me when I say they do rated power and no more this is coming from JL AUDIO. They know how many watts comes out of there amps and its 250 for 250/1 500 for 500/1 and the 1000 for 1000/1. I repeat this is for JL AUDIO. If you don't believe me give JL a email.

Then you'll need to believe every other company, too. What they "say" is what they put as their RMS rating. Those zappies then put out exactly what they're rated at and not a watt over. And those pyles are a real bargain @ 4000W for $100. A bit naive, but whatever.

Joey, then you are saying that JL is lying about the output of their products?

Do I have to email them, too, to find out the real answer?

I remember the outcome on the NINe.1 efficiency thread. Do you?

jl makes great products.

as for output, unless I saw the number on the instrument used by glasswolf to test it the result is impossible to prove. However, I trust glasswolf 100 % if HE would come on this thread and say what it benched.

They've been repeatedly tested to put out MORE than rated power.

If you're saying that you heard from JL themselves, that JL amp slash series does absolute rated power, no more, no less, then you're saying that JL is lying.

Again, JL Slash series amplifiers have been repeatedly teset to put out MORE than rated power.

And I thought this was well known, but apparently not. Underrated stuff is for competitors to get away with using alleged less powerful equipment while getting more power from them that rated.

i think this comes down to the same concept Cable Internet companies use. Usually you'll order 3mb download speed but in when u goto download you're gettin 3.5mbs. i'm sure they over compensate for heat etc etc..jmo
