I was looking at some DMMs at Fry's and RadioShack today and didn't understand what "8-range" meant and how that compares to 18 or 48 range or something like that. Can anyone clarify this for me? Also, what features is this thing supposed to have?

You have to set the range on the DMM when you measure something, 2 volt for 0-2 volts, 20 volt for 2-20 volts, 200 volt for 20-200 volts, etc.

If you get a meter with auto-ranging you don't have to do that.

Ok, I did see one with that sh!t! Are all DMMs able to measure low resistances or can some only measure higher ones?

All cheap meters I have seen are able to measure low enough resistance for any car audio use.

for audio use, just make sure the meter has the ability to read "true RMS" or AC voltage.

Gotcha, will look for that too.
And Mr. Glass, what is your name? Or do you not reveal it?

For your budget, get the first one on the Radio Shack list, $89.

AC volts. The symbol looks like this: ~

If the meter is not auto-ranging, you set it to the next highest number from the value you will be measuring. For example if 40 volts is the value you're using to set the gain, and your meter has 2, 20, and 200 volts AC ranges, you would set it to 200.
