It will happen if the amp gets too hot, it will just shuts off. And the speaker connections can be fine at the speaker, but not to the amp. You can also have an intermitant short just about anywhere, or grounding something out. Im gonna go with getting too hot when you push it hard. How long does it take to go into protection ? What kind of amp is it and what cha running to it?
