Overpowering a Sub

I'm contemplating getting the Alpine Type R 12" DVC 4ohm sub (500w rms) in a ported Q-logic box. I am planning to run it in parallel powered by my Kenwood KAC-8152d mono amp. The 2ohm power from the amp is 550watts rms. Will overpowering the sub by 50 watts do any damage or cause any problems to the sub or the amp?

some subs yes, and depending on the amp yes...but with a kenwood amp, i would deffinately not worry about overpowering it...mabey underpowering it.... but the type R can handle a good 600watts...

you could run your type R on a 1000w amp if you wanted - just set the gain accordingly.

FWIW - disregard the "underpowering" comment above.
