Alright well when I try to start my car it just trys but nothing happens but I put a battery in that was dead but have been charging it, but it has started but it just keeps doing it is it the battery or the alt?

get a multi meter and see what your what your batts voltage is without the car on. should be over 12.5V...if not, batts gone.

also, test your batts voltage w/ the car running, should be between 13.8 and 14.7V. if not, alts gone.

Makes sure when testing your battery to charge it first, don't use the one you have been running in your car to determine that. Polo..

not totally true Marshal. the battery can have the voltage, but be lacking the amperage to crank the car. i had that happen to a friend. car would just click when he tried to crank it, checked 12.6V with a meter, it was a stick so he jumped it off, drove it to the dealer, they changed the battery out, been fine ever since....weird, yes, lol.
