Wire Gauge Recommended
Maximum Fuse Size
00 awg 400 amps
0 awg 325 amps
1 awg 250 amps
2 awg 200 amps
4 awg 125 amps
6 awg 80 amps
8 awg 50 amps
10 awg 30 amps
12 awg 20 amps
14 awg 15 amps
16 awg 7.5 amps

BassMan3 posted that in another thread.
I plan on running 0 gauge to my trunk, I will be powering a Kicker KX 800.2 and a Hifonics 2006D. I have a 160 amp HO Alternator.

What size fuse should I use? 325? That sounds like way too much. Any help?

Just look at your amps, calculate the sum of fuse amperage on them and choose the main fuse that's a little bit above that sum (like 10-20 amps above), that's it:-)

So should I go with a 300 amp fuse?

My kicker Kx 800.2 has 3 X 40 amp fuses.

I'll be getting a Hifonics 2006D and well, the 1606D has 160 amps. So, Im expecting atleast 300 amps of fuses total.

Any more opinions?

what guage wire goes from your alternator to your battery bc its pointless to have a 0 guage wire when your alternator wire isnt even close to that size???

you can use a 325 amp fuse on the line to your trunk right by the battery. the point of that isnt to protect the amps they have their own fuses, but to protect the wire. so you can use the max fuse that the wire is rated at. the fuse will also prtect you say you get in a crash and the wire is cut and shorts and it will start a fire but the fuse will blow so it wont have any power.

DO I really want that big of one? I was thinking of going with a 200 amp one.

I just remember, when i went into a local car audio store and asked for a 150 amp fuse, they laughed at me and said

just go to www.bcae1.com and go to # 13 or 14 (i think) on the right. read that.

fuses are extemely important so you want to make sure you know waht or doin or else somethin bad can really happen. i have seen engine blocks caught on fire because of people not having the ocrrect fuse. so read that a little. it tells u everything

So, I wanna go with the big 300 amp one huh?

And thats just because its to protect the WIRE, not the amp or anything.

0 Gauge will start to burn the insulation if more than 325 amps are applied to the wire right?

Well, they 0 gauge is going to a dist. block. 4 gauge to the Kicker and then MAYBE 2 gauge to the hifonics.
