My dad keeps telling me that i do not need to hook my amp up to my head unit and that I can hook it up threw the back 2 speakers straight into my 1800 watt amp then into my 2 Kicker Solobaric L7

You can, but you must convert them to RCA's before they go in to the amp.
Unless you have a really oldschool amp.

If your HU has Preamp outs use those for shure.
But if not you can wire them off your rear speakers.

fo sho, there are called pre outs for a reason, pre outs mean the signal is not amplified, which means the amp can amplifie it withg less distortion. when u use a speaker signal, that is already amplified, which means your amp has to shrink down the signal to an acceptble level then amplifiy it, causing more distortion.
