don't really need one
they're all the same.
if your lights dim, what you need is a bigger alternator.

here's a link to a FAQ I wrote up on capacitors with another fellow I know who does a lot of amateur audio work.

tells you everything I would end up typing over again here. if ya have questions after that, shoot em at me.

also there's a thread on this forum in the amplifier section that argues a lot of the capacitance issues

1 farad per every 1000 watts peak amp power,
suggest 1 big cap and power distribution blocks over many small caps in series

For major system use optima yellowtop or any deep cycle battery min 200 cold crank amps above your stock battery.

An alternator upgrade is excellent and the most effective way to run your system, however there is a problem with this option, all that extra power can cause other electrical problems

eg, overcharging battery, computer problems,

Never buy a cap below 1 farad, unnoticable, waste of money.

Remember a cap can only work with what the battery and alternator send it, they will not increase your amperage or voltage, just change the time and quickness at which your power is delivered to the amps.

"suggest 1 big cap and power distribution blocks "over many small caps in series"

you don't put capacitors in series. you put them in parallel to increase capacitance.
just the opposite of resistors.

"For major system use optima yellowtop or any deep cycle battery min 200 cold crank amps above your stock battery."

yellow tops are deep cycle, and make poor starter batteries.
an 850CCA red top is an ideal starter battery.
a yellow top will ideally require an isolator, and trunk placement.

"all that extra power can cause other electrical problems
eg, overcharging battery, computer problems,"

this is just pure BS. the battery will be charged to it's peak capacity, 12.5VDC, regardless of the amount of current teh alternator can produce. The computer won't be affected. A larger alternator simply is able to produce more current (NOT VOLTAGE) on demand. I'm so tired of hearing this ridiculous claim.
