WHen i had my first system the installer hooked up this little box with the glass fuses. What do you call them? I loved the set up but my new installer said they are not necessary. What advantages do the fuses have over not having them?

depends what the fuses were for.
if they're for the amplifiers, you can get a distribution block that has the fuse holders built in, and digital voltage display etc.
makes everything in one spot.

Hey Glass, its me again lol,
the box i was talking about is where you run your power wire into the box and can make 3 or more branch-outs to power another amp or cap. is that what a distribution block is?
