yes 1 amp thats 800 watts rms if each sub is 400 watts rms each.

SPL stands for Sound Pressure Level, or simply the "loudness" of the speaker, which is rated in decibel's.

SQ stands for Sound Quality. pretty self explanatory

Is that rms power or peak power on the subs and amp?

Well the subs are 400w RMS. Im not sure of what amp Im going to buy. From what I was told a JL 1000.1 watt amp differs from an Audiobahn 1000w. What really makes 1 company better than the other? Design? or just the name?

design: (how well heat dissipation is thought out, cooling, access to controls, types of terminals etc)
build quality: how well the product will last over time, due to things like the components used inside the amplifiers. Example, milspec transistors and 1% tolerane resistors.

Name: yes, name. this will tell you often how well the company in question will stand behind their products if there is a problem after purchase. This determines warranty coverage, support, info available to owners on their products, help with use after the sale, etc.

accuracy in ratings: things like power, THD, damping factor, slew rate, s/n ratio, and many other things have several ways of being measured, some more misleading than others. The better companies stick to industry accepted standards and rate their products with true values, or in fact under-rate their products, selling amplifiers capable of producing more power than advertised (the JL 1000/1 is a good example of this.)

those are a few of the differences.
JL Audio is a better company than Audiobahn, and the products reflect this. Audiobahn makes flashy products in the mass-produced, low budget catagory with often questionale reliability, but since they look good, and they're cheap, and they do in fact make lots of noise (what wouldn't given enough power?) they are very popular with those more concerned with being noticed, than with assembling a good, high quality system based on good sound quality, accuracy, and durability.

JL makes more expensive products, but the systems, when designed properly using JL equipment, are very good, respectable systems for both SPL (volume) and SQ both, be it for personal use, or competition.

you'll see a lot of audiobahn at competitions.. just like you see more ford escorts on the road than you do ferarris, but you'll see JL products in the winner circles far more often at competition.

I haven't met anyone to date who's been disappointed with a JL amp, matched to the right subs in a good box. You should be pleased with the results.
