How to use a voltmeter

i just got a voltmetere (finally) haha... and i was wondering how i would use it... why mode do i put it on etc...

its from radioshack: 15 Range digital multimeter

err typos!...-what mode to put it on etc...

How do i check the voltage that goes back to my amp... sorry ... thanks again

for voltage, set it to the 20V range of DC voltage (didn't look at the pic, but you want the range that is the lowest number still higher than what you're reading. usually 20V for a 12V system.)

connect the black probe to a known ground, and touch the red probe to the wire you want to test.
