Alpine 9833

I have a Chevy Blazer (2001) with an Alpine 9833, Infinity 6012i's in my doors, and 6412cfp's in my dash. I have my ipod hooked up through KCA-420i, and am looking to improve the sound. Unfortunately, I don't know squat about equalizers, crossovers, etc. I was wondering if anyone could help me on this. I'm assuming people could go on for days telling me about the different options, so I'm asking:

1- Could someone recommend certain settings for me, and I could figure out how to input the settings by using the manual
2- Could someone advise me on how to find or understand the ideal settings for things like parametric and graphic eqs, whatever they mean
3- Is there a site I could read about how to figure out these things?
4- Are there stores or places I could take my car to have it professionally improved?
5- Is there any point to doing this, and should I just keep the default settings?

Honestly, I could ask questions for days about stuff like active vs passive crossover, high vs low pass filters, high vs low frequencies, the different types of ranges, slopes. Am I too much of a rookie to even bother to attempt to adjust the sound?

I am very appreciative any help you could give me. By the way, I'm not looking to increase the bass. I'd rather improve the audio, by cutting out the "crackling" in the background of some of the older songs I listen to.

1- the settings will depend on your car and your system/install. the far left of the eq is the low-end (bass) and it gets higher as it moves to the right. just go to the eq and adjust it based on what you think you should hear more loudly and what should be attenuated (turned down). push the volume knob in and hold it until it beeps. then push in the number to which the setting will be saved (1-6).

2- graphic eq is the up and down type you are likely used to. the parametric eq deals with Q, level, and frequency: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=144

3- find a reference song that you are familiar with. if you have the time, you can compare that song in your ride with a pair of good headphones. then use these links to figure out the rest:

4- yes, there are such places. they typically use an RTA that gives you the basic ideal curve. you/they can then adjust it from there.

5- if you enjoy your system with the default settings, just chill. but with that unit, you would be missing out on all it had to offer. not certain as to your front stage though.

the crackling, again, would be located towards the (far) right of the spectrum. you could also go to the cross over section and attenuate the highs in that frequency. great unit you have there. you should be able to build around it really well.

feel free to ask the rest of your questions. it's a forum (google and search are also lots of fun :-)
