I was putting my new HU and plan to re-run all of the speaker wires. The fatory speaker wires is fairly small. I got one ot the wiring harness for my car and was going to connect to the HU wiring harness. My question is that the wiring harness speaker wires are also small. So If I connect a 14g or 12g speaker wires to the harness, would it make any different or the system is only as strong as the weakest part and the wiring harness is the weakest part. What are other opinions on this? Thanks.
you don't need any larger than 18 gauge wire for component speakers. 14awg is good for subs, which should be wired to an amp anyway and not to the head unit.
