alright..
been looking into gettin amp and subs for a long time now and i have a basic idea of what im doing.. would like a second opinion first. the amp i was looking at was the:

Lanzar VIBE231 800 Watt 2 Channel MOSFET Amplifier
to power 2 12-inch 400 watt subs..

the way i was ganna hook it up was the standard dvc split.. they would be compatible right?

second.. ive got a decent dash/head piece.. (not factory) how exactly i hook the amp to here? and do i run the cables through the car? (civic)

ive got basic knowledge here as well :/

any input would be nice

Firstly u made a wrong turn by choosing a crappy company with Lanzar .

What budget ?

Have u read this www.the12volt.com or www.bcae1.com

This gives an idea on brands :

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly *or* Is this brand any good?

These are some pretty generalized groupings and also very subjective. We've simply based our experiences with the products whether they are direct installs, personal property or extensive research. You should always physically listen to a product before purchase because you are the one who will determine whether or not an item "sounds good" or not.

This topic, while being controversial, is simply a generalized guide meant for beginners in the hobby. Many brands specialize in certain items, ie. better amplifiers than speakers, better mids than subs, etc... Also almost all manufacturers offer entry level products as well as high quality lines. As I stated before, this is a GENERALIZED guide. It is your responsibility to research and audition every brand before you purchase anything. Good luck with your decisions.

Ya know, Alpine didn't think too hard about their subwoofer names did they? I see the Type-X and I think about Megaman X and how that series of games rocked!

Rovin,

I'm curious what's the difference between the old and the new PPI amps, besides the fact that the new ones have a FUGLY casing.

Looking at their stock listings of PPI amps at acaraudio.com (anybody used them?) I noticed that for the new PPI amps, you don't get much of an RMS increase when going from 4 to 2 ohms.

For instance, the old PCX-440
• 40W x 4 at 4 Ohms
• 100W x 4 at 2 Ohms

And the new DCX300.4
• 50W x 4 at 4 Ohms
• 75W x 4 at 2 Ohms

So basically RMS *quadruples* on the old PCX but increases only by 50% on the new DCX when you move from 4 to 2 ohms.

Why is that? What does that suggest about the technology in the new DCX models?

I'm not qualified to comment on that - ask either Glass,Jonathan or Isaac , these guys been around yrs now & have used both new & old .

Basically every1 on this forum says that generally older stuff was made better than new .

But me personally - I DO NOT like the exterior looks of those new PPI , i've seen them up close & they are BUTT UGLY like a piece of machinery . Sure it does what it says but everybody like an attractive looking amp like the Kicker ,Orion .
