Correct way to bridge a 2 channel amp?

hi, could anyone tell me the correct way to bridge a 2 channel amp? i have heard two different ways to do it and it is confusing me. one way i've heard is to run the amp's + output of one channel to the + terminal of the speaker and the - output of the other channel to the speaker's negative. the second way mentioned is running amp's + to speaker + and speaker's - to amp's other +??

is it one or the other? or does it happen to depend on the amp itself? i believe i read that on amps where there is a "bridge" mode switch, when that is flipped to bridge then the polarity of one channel is switched, so would it be in these cases of amps only that you would wire the speakers to both + terminals on an amp?

please help. thank you.
