Do all sound dampeners (Dynamat, eDead etc) smell?

Do all dampeners smell? I know dynamat xtreme is made with something other than the usual tar based stuff. Does anyone have any experience with a particular deadener? If so does it smell like tar? How do you feel about the paint on stuff such as edead v3? Sorry for the long post, but I just got a 2003 Highlander and i don't want to mess it up.
Thanks

Dynamat Xtreme is made of a lightweight elastomeric butyl. not nearly as much smell, and will stick to anything(almost anything). Edead uses a self-adhesive glue.

I'm not sure what any of the other sound deadeners are made of. but i have been told that Edead stinks, and some people will argue that Dynamat Xtreme stinks but i don't think it does, maybe it is b/c i am around it all the time and i am used to it or something.:-)
