I tried using my mp3 player to connect to amp via y connector. there is no sound. Do i have to have a certain rca voltage to work the amp?

The amplifier probably needs the remote turn-on hooked up to a 12v DC source.

The remote is connected to the car. It only turns on when the key is on. I tried hooking up a small mp3 player to the amp and there is no sound. Is that because the voltage from the mp3 headphone jack is too low?

That's possible, but if the amp is putting out full range sound, you should hear something...

Does the cable just plug into the headphone output of your mp3 player and convert that to RCA cable (of which is hooked up to the amp)?

yes, the cable hooks up to the mp3 player via headphone jack, it then splits into 2 rca plugs. the rca plugs hook up to the amp
