Power wire gauge...??

I had a kenwood 600w amp to which I had running an 8gauge power wire. I'm getting rid of this amp and buying an Alpine MRD-M1005 mono amp to power one 12" Alpine Type R sub. The manual says to use 4 gauge power wire for this sub. Is this really necessary? It would mean I'd have to swap out my whole wiring that I have now.

well, it's only needed if you want to avoid destroying your sub and starting a car fire..

otherwise, stick to the 8AWG wire!

There's no sense buying a bigger amp if you want to keep smaller wiring. one mof the biggest mistakes made is not using the the right wire for the application. Defeats the purpose and causes smaller wires to heat up.

Makes sense. Do I have to use 4 guage all the way around? Like from amp to cap, ground, and other wires?
