Amp/Sub Problem After Car Exchange

I had in my taurus one 12" jl audio sub pushed by a 500 watt amp. in my lexus suv i had two 15" jl audio subs pushed by a 1000 watt.. since i use my taurus more I switched out the systems (subs and amps).. now my taurus has the two 15" subs and 1000 watt amp and it is working just fine. in my lexus though my one 12" sub with 500 amp isnt working right. it seems that there is much more power going to the sub now.. it is hitting so hard when you turn up the volume the sub sounds like its about to blow and then the amp turns off. only things i didnt exchange are the ground wire/power wire and of course the head unit because the head unit in my lexus is a navigation/stereo combo. any suggestions on why this is happening. thanks.

You need to adjust the gain/level on the amp. I am sure the HU on your Lexus puts out higher voltage than your Taurus.
Amp shutting down is a good sign of incorrectly set gain.
Do you have HO alternator in your cars? There is no way a stock alternator can handle those amps without breaking down over time.
