if you have an amp that is 1000 watts and it sais it has 2 channels does that mean it has 2 channels of 1000 watts?

no that means it has 500 watt max for each channel

if its bridgeable then it has 1000 watt max mono.

rms will be a different story

then why does it have seperete channels because u can hook up 2 subs so a mono amp

Doug, check the amp's class. Most 2 channel amps are AB. Meaning, it'll handle subs as well as full range. Class Ds are strickly for subs.
