The fuse on my amp is 40... the fuse on my wiring is 30... is this a problem? shouldnt i match the wiring fuse with the amp fuse?

It needs to be bigger on the wiring.

Get a bigger fuse for the wire, likewise make sure the wire can handle the bigger fuse.

could having a fuse smaller on the wire than on the amp itself cause the amp to go into protect mode? Im having trouble diagnosting a protect mode light... when i turn up the volume the amp goes into protect... so at first i turned down the gain setting. and now im afraid to turn it back up!

Mark, fuse on the wire or the amp doesn't do anything with your amp go to protect mode, Fuse just protect your amp from electricity on the circuit. you might check with your speakers wiring.
