Overpowering Subs

I've heard that it is better to overpower your subs than to underpower them, is this true, and how much should you overpower them, I am thinking of overpowering mine by 100 RMS more.

Good idea if you want to buy some more subs...you're better off underpowering them with some clean power than overpowering them with distortion...so it really depends on what your meaning of overpowering them is...I putting 450rms to my Alpine type R's (the specs say 300rms) and they sound great...so it also depends on what subs you're talking about.

If you plan on overpowering subs, this will allow you to listen to them at a lower volume that will extend the life of the amp/subs. I would only overpower quality subs though.

But if you do go to like 75% and above on the volume, yea, expect to damage them.

Do you know how much power i should put to 2 JL 12w3v2 subs. Im not sure what amp i should get and how many watts it should have. Any recommendation on the amps?

SO yes overpowering them is not that bad of an idea, plus this amp has a remote bass control.
