Amps: quality vs. quantity

ok, so i know that in home audio, a 200W harman-kardon reciever will give you more power than a 400W Sony one (i cannot remember the reason, but i've been told), and a much cleaner sound. does the same quality over quantity hold with car amps? paying no attention to bass, if i want a clean, crisp sound, would i be advised to purchase, say a 200W xtant/ Zapco over a 400W MTX/ Kicker?

its all about balls...
oversized powersupplys and output stages. That is why the HK rox...
It is the same reason Carver blows HK away.
The same reason Crest Audio or QSC blows Carver away.

No attention to bass? are you not wanting accurate sound? Or are you not wanting a 'boombox'?

I prefer Hifonics/Autotek/Zapco or anything made by ZED when it comes to performance, accuracy and longevity.

no bass b/c i have a self powered sub, so i do not need a mono amp or an multi- channel amp bridged for a sub, therefore, i just want my speakers to perform to their capability
