i just got a zapco 500.1 amplifier and it comes with the symbilink. however both the cable they give and the amp are female ports where can i buy a male/male wire online, or would it be possible to use another wire say from a computer store? just curious becasue there are no zapco dealers in my area and i would like to get the amp in ASAP!

wait are there more than one kind firewire? all the firewire cables i have are square/rectangle type shapes. however the symbilink is round and has six pins. kind of shaped more like s-video. or is it just firewire cable with different connecting pins?

Let me clarify, it's Firewire technology, but commonly referred to as DIN cable. Can't remember if Zapco uses a special type, but go to the shop, take your female cable, and they should find one to fit it if they have it. You can find many online as well, such as here:

Yeah alot of car audio manufacturers used to use din cables. Don't go by this exact wiring pin out, but here's PPI's old phantom power setup.

If what you have looks like that then any din gender changer/cable should work.

Radio Shack might even have something.

Yeah take your female cable to Radio Shack and see if this works for $6.29.

It should unless you have a mini din plug(the size of a PS/2 mouse connector) and they should have something for that size as well.

good luck :-)

*cough* yeah PPI got that from Orion. they were interchangable back then.
I still use Orion amps and signal processing with their DIN cables.
excellent noise rejection with a balanced signal path, and a nice high signal voltage.
