Sub surge protection

I just recently purchased the Monster 2000 unit and when reading the literature that came with it, it suggests using another monster product (go figure) which you sub plugs into then this plugs into the wall socket and is looped over to the main surge protector (unless I'm reading this wrong.) Is this really necessary or can I just plug my powered sub into one of the empty audio plugs on the main surge protector? Any ideas or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I would not plug it into an empty audio plug as this will bypass the filter to reduce interference in your video components. You could, however, use either of the Receiver or Main Amp outlets. If these are both being used I strongly suggest getting the Monster PowerCenter SW 200 which is design for subwoofer protection. I hope this helps.
