Hi. I am quite new to audio setup. Recently got a Marantz SR 301 with Boston 4000 speakers. I know its an very outdated set but it is
affordable for a student like me and suituable for my use in my room and its my 1st real audio set anyway. After setting up and stuff,
I ran into a few problems.

1. I am outputting audio from my pc to the receiver using spdif out from the pc. I uses a RCA cable (quite a decent one for an RCA cable) instead
of a specialised coaxial cable which I cant seem to find anyway upon advice from a shop which tell me it will work.True it does but whenever I off or on
applicance in my room , like a fan near the receiver the audio will stop for an instant ( ~0.5 sec) before continuing fine. There is no spike or hissing or
distortion, the audio just dissappear and reappear smoothly.

Can someone tell me whats is the problem? Is it really because I did not get an coaxial cable or is it because the RCA cable ran near a power cable connecting my PC to the switch when going to receiver?
Or is is that I have too many electrical stuff and corresponding cables in my room?(PC,ps2,hdtv,home theater)

2. I uses CCCP (which has media player classic and ffdshow) to play video files and such. I got a pc video file (mkv format)with 6 channel 1536kbps DTS track. Playing it using pc with spdif out result
in the audio stuttering(Playing on pc 5.1 speakers work fine). Using the rencode to AC3 option in ffdshow option and setting it to 640kbps (max setting available) will allows the audio to play fine on my receiver.
Why is this so?

*** 3.This isnt audio related but I am really desperate for help.
I have a ps2 using a cheap brandless s-video cable and just changed to component cables recently than the troubles came.

a).I started seeing red and black lines across my 32 inch HDTV. These lines look kind of like patchs as they are close together. They are more apparent on darker backgrounds.I discover that the more switches that are on in the room the more apparent these lines are.

edit: for some reason unplugging the cables and reconnecting them remove this problem. Quite sure the wire was tightly fit in the 1st round already. Or is it some accidental repositioning of the cable that solve this? any ideas?

b). Whenever I close and off a switch or appliance, my screen will go black for 0.5 to 1.5 second. The nearer the switch/applicance is to the ps2 the greater the effect.

Can someone tell me what is wrong? Is it because the cables are problematic or some other reasons? They are branded Pantherlord and are stated to be double shielded etc on the box.
But they are those 3 in 1 (wii, xbox 360,ps2/3) though....

Thanks in advance and sorry if you are confused as I do not know the proper technical terms for alot stuff.
Feel free to ask for more information.

How old is the house? How old is the wiring in the house?

and for qn 2, its most likely because my receiver or pc soundcard spdif output cant handle such a high bitrate I guess. Any confirmation will be great though
