It is shady. Not worth any money. Stick to known and established speaker manufacturers. That's a parked website to make people who got scammed feel good about their purchase.

Hmmm... I purchased one of these from some guys workin for a speaker place rollin around... Seemed shady at first but I bought it for cheap and I am quite happy with it. It sounds great. Ive run into some little quirks like the auto power on the sub isnt quite sensitive enough sometimes and the volume+ on the remote seems to cause the dvd player to open when the player is already at max volume. Other than that, I've found it to be quite nice....

I just bought one yesterday in a parking lot at jiffy lube of all places. 2 guys in a caravan. I paid 350.00 the retail is 2995.00. I will keep you posted once I hook it up. When telling the guys at work they think I have been scammed. Maybe but they wanted 1000.00 and it seems to have alot to offer

This is definitely a scam... I was approached by two guys outside Circuit City wanting $800 for the home theater system and 2 tower speakers. I'm sure these speakers and dvd player work fine, but they are not worth the MSRP of 2999 (home theater) and 799 (per tower).

New England sound and home theater is a scam beware. Their MILLENNIUM THEATER mts 3100 is an international front speaker company. They don't even post their real address but here it is: 41 bringham road unit 18 in Marlboro, ma. It is off of route 85. John (if real name) runs the place with his goons corey and lenny. I got my money back. Just show up there and act shady, they will give you back your money.
Have fun.....

Looks like the guy are now in New Jersey. I was ready to close the deal for $300, but I told the guy to wait while I look up the MTS 3100 on internet, the I found these posting. I was clear that it was definitely a scam. Very appeal to buy since the price comes down from 2990 to just 300 buck. Everything looks pretty nice, wrap and new, in fact it may work fine, but the bottom line is that it is not worth the $2990 as it is promoted. Sorry for the one already bought. I am glad I read before I made my final decision. Of course, when I walk out to turn down my purchase the guy were not longer in the parking lot.

There is absolutely no doubt this is a scam. The same two guys operating out of the van appear to go by different names. They pretend to be unaffiliated with their boss (who apparently usually goes by John, at least most of the time). If there is any question about whether the items are really valued anywhere near their posted MSRP, then just challenge yourself to actually see one selling for anything near that price anywhere on the internet. You can buy them straight up on ebay for $300 or less. Possibly to the untrained ear they sound fine, but they suck for overall quality and sound quality. If there is any doubt whether the MTS company is fraudulent, go to their website (website address posted by someone above)and try to call the technical support phone number. Its a dead end. If you should happen to get a receipt from the street peddlers, for New England Sound & Home Theater the address on the receipt is bogus. However, they do have a real address which someone posted anonymously above. The 41 Brigham Street Unit 18 in Marlborough, MA is the correct address. Its located in the very back of the Brigham Business Park. If you are searching for a contact, the business phone number where (John) may be reached is 508-###-####. It appears that some people have been successful at getting most or all of their money back. Just remember a good rule of thumb, "If it seems to be true, it probably isn't."

I got scammed today in New Brunswick NJ. HOwever I only paid $250 after checking on ebay - $300 starting, $400 buy-it-now.
So it's probably junk and worth about $150 or maybe $200 if we're lucky, but thank god for finding it on ebay or they probaly would have got me for $400 or more. I thought I had resolved my gullibility issues....
Still have residues of the silly "don't want to hurt the salesman's feelings" dumbness. Also greed of thinking you're getting a bargain.
Anyway could have been a lot worse. As long as they sound good that's the main thing. A lot of it is in the mind, if I thought they were DMC or AR or something I'm sure they'd sound superb.

Oops sorry about that, I just hit review while editing, wasn't sposed to post everytime...
anyway just how much would these actually be worth? Would they be the bottom of the barrel components or a bit better? They don't sound totally b of the b...

ANyone have any idea, eg Benny? I'm guessing $150 to $200 bu tthat's just a wild guess. probalby would have to open them up to see the components.

From what I have been able to gather from various sites as well as some comments from dealers is that the nominal value (or cost to the average crony is about $200). This assumes a middle man like the distributor. So I would guess their real value sits somewhere around $150, certainly not exceeding $200. From what I gather anything over $200 is money in the pocket of the van driver (i.e. street peddler). I wouldn't think that ebay $300 is anything to go on since that item never get's any bids, that I have seen.

Here is directions from an arbitrary address in Boston, MA. I simply copied the directions off of MapQuest. First off I resent the fact that you would even incinuate that I am in on it. I am just posting free information that might help you get YOUR MONEY back. What do I gain by putting this information up? Let me help you out. NOTHING!!! The only thing I am absolutely sure of is that, even though you can't manage to find it. The address is real and it exists. If I post contact information, I will get harrassed by every con-artist on the web, not worth it.

Here is the starting address I used

110 Huntington Ave
Boston, MA 02116

Destination Address is (you guessed it):

41 Brigham St
Marlborough, MA 01752-5143, US

1: Start out going EAST on AVENUE OF THE ARTS / HUNTINGTON AVE / MA-9 toward EXETER ST. Continue to follow MA-9 E. 0.1 miles Map

2: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto DARTMOUTH ST. <0.1 miles Map

3: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto ramp. 0.1 miles Map

4: Merge onto I-90 W / MASS PIKE / MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE (Portions toll). 21.8 miles Map

5: Merge onto MA-9 W / WORCESTER RD / BOSTON-WORCESTER TURNPIKE via EXIT 12 toward MARLBOROUGH / WORCESTER. 1.7 miles Map

6: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto PLEASANT ST CONN. 0.3 miles Map

7: PLEASANT ST CONN becomes FIRMIN AVE. 0.2 miles Map

8: FIRMIN AVE becomes BOSTON RD / MA-30. 1.0 miles Map

9: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto FRAMINGHAM RD. 1.5 miles Map

10: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto MA-85 / MARLBORO RD. Continue to follow MA-85. 0.6 miles Map

11: Turn LEFT onto MILL ST S / MILL ST SOUTH. 0.2 miles Map

12: Turn SHARP LEFT onto BRIGHAM ST. 0.1 miles Map

13: End at 41 Brigham St
Marlborough, MA 01752-5143, US

This will get you to the Brigham Business Park (which is not labeled with a sign, but there are many small businesses there) unit 18 is in the very back (you have to go up a steep hill that winds around behind units 1-12). The units are numbered in order, there are two groups of buildings, those on Brigham St. and those at the top of the hill behind the units right on the street. 18 is in the very far back corner of the Business Park.

As for the number, you are probably only the 50th person to call it since I posted it. They may not be answering anymore. Go visit them.

Hey macktack et al.
I assure you that the information from "Anonymous" is 100% correct. I recently got scammed...not too badly...but scammed nonetheless; it hurt my ego more than my wallet. Anyway, I took a roadtrip to Marlborough and I found the place...just where "Anonymous" said it would be...and got my money back, despite a strong salespitch from "John" and his "legitimate" storefront.
THANKS "Anonymous"

I bought a MTS 3100 system today. I live in California, so they must be west coast as well. I paid $500 from 2 guys in a white van. I thought I was getting a steal since they showed me a catalog showing it retail for $2900. My guy feeling was I was getting scammed, but I bought it anyways. I haven't hooked it up yet. Is it worth keeping or should I attempt to get my $500 back on eBay?

Anonymous

I don't think I got "scammmed". I paid $300 for a MTS 3100. The system sounds very good. I would have felt "scammed" if I set it up and nothing worked. But not the case. Sure, I could have dropped thousands of dollars for a brand name, but for my simple needs in an apt complex with paper thin walls, I think this is just fine. Now if my MTS 3100 starts falling apart in 12 months, well then I guess I got my $300 bucks out of it.

Get your money back!! If you really like it that much, go onto ebay and buy one. It will save you $200 or more. You probably could have owned 2 complete systems for what you paid. "I am not one who buys into the idea that if it makes sound it was a steal at any price." Although, from the postings above I can see that my feels are not completely mutual. Some people have bought some for as little as $175, if that gives you any indication of its actual value. By the way, I challenge you to find anyone selling the product at or above the stated retail price. It will likely be as challenging as locating the van you bought it out of.

The original Mr. Anonymous at the top, who first posted information about John and his croneys on Jan. 5, 2005 is a different person than myself. And yes in his post he made a typo in adding an "N" in Brigham which would lead people to believe that address did not exist. However, it was his post that gave me confidence in getting my money back, and to him I owe many thanks. After I got my money back, I felt an obligation to future victims who might not have been lucky enough to gather as much contact information on the culprits as I did. I knew the mistake in the address because the con-artists actually gave me the real address, for which they refer to their "legitamit business". Even though I knew where they were, my only hope of getting my money back was the fact that Jan. 05 "Anonymous" got his/her money back. So far it appears that at least 3 people including myself, have managed to restle our money back from John and his compadres so hope is not lost for you. I am just glad to see that the information I have posted has helped others out. As is the case with many others, my pride was hurt worse than my wallet. Fortunately, mine turned into a cheap learning experience as I got back all of my money back save a few dollars in gas. Good luck, let me know how it turns out for you.

Hopskipandajump....I am glad to know I was able to help.

This is John with MTS Speakers
Im the Manager at New England Sound & Home Theater

and yes Mr Anonymous...John is my real name

I have never used any other name so i dont see why anyone would think otherwise.

and yes Mr Anonymous...We are located at
41 Brigham St. Unit #18 Marlborough, MA 01752

We are the door marked in big white letters:
NEW ENGLAND SOUND & HOME THEATER

Mr Anonymous posted: New England sound and home theater is a scam beware. Their MILLENNIUM THEATER mts 3100 is an international front speaker company. They don't even post their real address.

The address posted on the receipt is not fake it is our mailing address. the UPS STORE is also a mail receiving service. If you went inside and inquired further you would have probably been directed to our physical address.

or you could just call the number on the receipt.

yes...I can be reached at 508-###-####

it is the same phone number on all the reciepts.
it is the real phone number to my office.
it is the same number publicly listed with the phone company to New England Sound and Home Theater at the secret hidden address of
41 brigham street unit # 18 Marlborough MA 01752

we are not a retail store and if i do not answer the phone it is only because i am not in the office at that time. I assure you that if you leave a message i will return your call that same day or by the following morning.
I always do.

as for mts being an international front...

i dont even know how to respond to that.

what the heck are you talking about?
an international front ? A front for what?
It sounds pretty serious to me...maybe you should go to the authorities and see what they think about it. let me know.

Do you really think we are doing business secretly in the Brigham Business Park. The city of Marlborough knows we are here. We ARE a Legitimate Business. we are properly licensed and registered to do our business here. We pay our taxes. we obey every letter of the LAW. You should also.

and No... you can NOT come in and act shady and expect to get your money back instantly. anyone acting shady in our place of business will be escorted out in handcuffs by the marlborough police department. I PROMISE.

If you are interested in getting a refund simply follow the instructions on the reciept.

call the number on the reciept and set up an appointmnent with me. Let me know which vendor you purchased the product from and the purchase price and I will set up a day and time for you to come in. then, come in with the product and reciept and you will be returned your money minus a 15% restocking fee. It is as simple as that.

Or you can mail in a copy of the reciept to the address listed upon it along with a letter stating your request for a refund and a number at which i can contact you. i will call you to schedule a return.

In any event, I will treat you with courtesy and respect. I expect you do the same for me.

Remember, we are not a retail store and i am not at the location at all hours during the day. Also we do not have a cash register and we do not keep cash at hand in our office. You can not just show up at any time during the day and expect to get your money back. IF YOU SHOW UP WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU.

Ask yourself something before you believe that this is a scam.

Why would you have a reciept and a process to get your money back.

I mean...if it REALLY was a scam. wouldn't the number REALLY be fake. and wouldn't the address REALLY be phony.

wouldn't the product REALLY not sound as good as it does. Those of you who actually hooked it up and listened to it, know what im talking about.

It REALLY is a good product.

and you REALLY did get it for a good price.

and the Warranty is for REAL...if you have any problems with the system we will service or replace it free for 1 year. Hey, you know where to
find me (at my secret hidden address of 41 Brigham Street unit#18 in Marlborough MA 01752).

Bigwilliestyle posted :I paid 400 and it sounds better than my bose lifesytle...

I know he paid 3-4 times more for the bose system

Isn't that the real scam

If MTS spent the same on marketing and advertising as bose you would have paid 3-4 times more with a smile.

as BERNY said in an earlier post...

"If it sounds amazing...then just enjoy it"

After all, isn't that all that matters?

I dont understand what the big deal is here. I have the mts 3100. I bought them the same way as everyone here about 6 months ago. i dont think its a scam. it's some kind of weird marketing / sales thing. i should have known when they insisted i take a reciept.

i mean think about it...

Who the hell would give you a reciept if they were trying to scam you. seriously

I paid $620 and it sounds 100% better than the sony system for which i paid $1200. Im happy with it but i definately should have bargained some more. anyway, that kind of thing happens all the time to me. anytime i buy something, i find out i could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else. even when i buy it out of a van. go figure ? LOL

I bought the system in Jersey about 3 months ago.
I agree with steveinmass, I dont think its a scam. I called the Tech support at 1-888-223-4743 and spoke to some guy named Jamie. The system sounds really good and this guy Jamie said he worked for the factory and assured me i was covered if anything went wrong within the first year. He said this place in Jersey called Innovative Sound was an authorized dealer or distributor or something like that. hey, i know this whole thing seems a little strange but it also seems like a lot of trouble just to scam us. I lived in NY /NJ my whole life and trust me when i tell you, when you get scammed your usually left holding nothing but your nuts in your hand. This aint the same thing.

hey john...

i do believe there's a great deal of deceit involved in the selling of these systems...why would you put your UPS address on the receipt?? why not just put the warehouse address? are you concerned that everyone would be making returns because it's not the super sound system you claim it to be?

bose??? i mean bose? i think not, and the guy who wrote that is either a 'plant' of has a hearing issue.

perhaps your 'business' is legitimate in some aspects, but definitely not all, i mean seriously, what legitimate business pretends to 'scam the man' by having an extra system in the back of a van that they can give you a deal on for some 'beer, and t_tty money'?? c'mon gimme a break!! i'm on the floor laughing!

legitimate? maybe? respectable? NEVER!! and why do you guys keep moving so often? because too many people find out the truth...then it's time to move again.

hey for those of you who bought the system, and you're trying to talk yourself into liking it...they can't even sell them on e-bay for $50.00!! but if you can suck it up, and admit your mistake, then take john up on his offer, and get your money back...furthermore, if it's wihtin 3 days of purchase, you can get ALL of your money back!

Bose?? GIVE ME A BREAK ! IM on the floor laughing

overpriced & overhyped

Anyone who knows anything about audio,
knows exactly what im talking about.

Maybe we could get a gold member to shed some light on bose speakers...anyone...?

It might not sound like a scam. But it is the practice of deceiving here that count. Common, if this system retails for $3000. Why can't John sells them on eBay for $300 and pocket the profit all to himself? Why he pays someone to sell his system for $300 on the back of the van?

My conclusion: deception = SCAM !!!

This message is for John@NewEngalndSound:

I just bought an MTS-3100 system and two MTS-2328 speakers today (Feb 11, '06) for about $450.00, from (you guessed it) two goys in a van. I live in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles), CA. The thing is, I was waiting for a tow truck to arrive to pick up my SUV while making the deal with these guys and in the commotion, forgot to get the receipt. I do not plan to return the items, but I am concerned about the warranty. And if I did decide to return the items (unopenned), how would I do so.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Secondly, after reading the posts above, I was of course concerned, so I checked eBay and discovered that the same system was up for bid for several different prices, including $50.00, and there were NO BIDDERS. If this is any indication of the value of these systems, I am concerned. I have not yet opened the boxes.

I don't feel "scammed" by your company, rather the swindlers who sold me the items for much more that I could have gotten it on eBay; but now I am somewhat concerned about my ability to prove my purchase and obtain a warranty or the ability to return the items if I am not satisfied or something goes wrong.

I called and left a message on your business phone regarding this matter. I left my contact information there.

Thank you,

Dave

That's funny - I was just reading more in detail some of the posts here and I got the same line from the dubious guys selling the system from their van: "Need the money for beer and the t*tty bar."

They claimed that they went to pick up the units from the warehouse and were given too many. If they brought them to their boss, he would just sell them at full price. So they wanted to make some extra money selling it at a "discounted" price. They even showed me the purchase order with their address on it. It was an Egyptian guy and a white American guy.

Seems suspect and dubitable that the stories are similar, even across the country. I am in (near) Los Angeles, CA.

Two men in an unmarked van pull up an try to sell you electronics.

Um, HELLO? This is something strait out of a 1970's NYC cop drama.

If the MSRP is $3000, that manufacturer must be in the jewlery buisness because there is NEVER a 1000% markup.

The system sounds to me like it is a cheap Sounddesign like system intended to get you to dump $300 on something the bought from Hong Kong.

Oh, and any comparisons to BOSE also suck in that:

a) BOSE sucks.
b) BOSE prides itself on selling its stuff to people who do not know much about high-end stereo equipment (no stats on the speaker sets, no comparisons in teh showrooms, etc).

So whatever. If you bought it, congrats! Hope you enjoy it.

But do us all a favor and don't give anyone you know audio advice.

Just for your Information...

You can NOT by this system on ebay for $50.00

If you take a closer look you will see that there is a reserve price that needs to be met

the lowest price offered on ebay to buy the system now is $600.00

the reason it is not getting any bids is probably because it is not a well known brand name and there is some bad press surrounding the system in terms of the way it is being sold on the streets.

lets get the facts straight.

first of all...bose does not suck...it is not as powerful as some of the other systems out there, and does not claim to be. it is meant for home systems without the intense bass that is out there for other systems...i agree, it is definitely over priced, but it is a well put together unit, from a reputable manufacturer...

oh, and allow me to correct myself...you cannot buy the crappy 3100 on e-bay for $50.00...in fact you can't even get a bid for $50.00 on e-bay...in any case, the system is a piece of junk...J U N K!!!

Its obviously a nationwide direct-market sales company.

Salesmen will say anything to get a sale.

What bothers me is that all you guys bought it out of the back of a van on the pretense that it was "extra"..."too many"..."left-over"...

didnt it occur to you that someone might be missing the systems. you are just as much to blame for buying it in the first place.

lets be real...out of the back of a van...didnt you think it might be stolen? didnt it feel like you were doing something wrong?

And now your complaining that it wasn't quite the STEAL you thought it was.

you question the morality and ethics of the people selling the merchandise, but what does it say about your own ethics and morality buying something that you thought was stolen in the first place.

Just admit it, your own greed got the better of you and you reap what you sow.

I was suckered and regret it. I should have known better.

So, who wants to buy a MTS-3100 for $500?

Sonos
Unregistered guest
For my experience, the price move from $1000 for the MTS-3100 to a little over $400 for the MTS-3100 and two of the 2605 speakers. The guys from the van set it up, tested it and gave me a chance to verify the performance. The sound was ok. I kept them guessing for a couple of hours. They look like they could earn about $20/hr. Factoring that in (two guys working for at least two hours trying to sell $450 worth of equipments,) that's about $80 less the original price, so really ...the most that each could get is about $190. If you subtract the gasoline, the use of the van, the driving time, the mishaps, and other miscellaneous cost. The amount is pitiful.

This was an ok purchase for an ok stereo, with seven ok speakers. The two guys seemed like ok guys too; (just a little sad and pathetic) their tactics were classic bullshit, amateurish, and laughable. Prediction > You two guys in the van can look forward to a future with a lot of disappointments. You took something that's ok, and sold it as if it was something that's cheap and in the process, you learn to down grade yourselves and the people you deal with. This is a much greater financial loss than you will ever realize. .a few people went along for the ride & felt now what you will live with in the year to come, disappointment.

hey all...

just wanted to let you know, that i went and got my money back...not exactly easy, but got it, ALL OF IT!!!

this has been a humbling experience, and truth be told, i have to agree with 'live and learn'...you felt good when you were getting away with 'something', and then angry because they got away with 'something' on you...

to the mr anonymous who gave the address etc. in marlborough, i owe you a world of thanks, if not for you, i'd be stewing right now...instead i feel great to have gotten my money back.

as for the bose system, i think it sounds pretty good...some of you are becoming quite angry about things...hey, it's a difference in opinion...some people think the mts 3100 sounds good, and some people don't...some people like the bose some people don't...no need to be a hater...name calling isn't necessary, is it???

good luck to everyone...stay determined!
thank you

I am the original anonymous who posted the first complete address for "John's" "New England Sound Business". As for all the bickering about whether Bose is better than this no-name-brand, I think it would be valuable to get an opinion from a trained ear from ecoustics.com. Someone who lives the stereo business. Someone should encourage them to participate. As for me, I could care less either way. I know there are plenty out there in denial about whether they got scammed, I know I was for about 2 hours until I read other's stories right here on this site. As much as many of you are convinced that "John" must have a legitamite business because he posted contact information, I would like to remind you that he did not post any new information that was not already clearly available. Does John give you your money back? Apparently so. So how does he stay in business? All the people who paid $150 or more for their system and are conviced, and will always be conviced, that they system was worth the money regardless of what they paid (i.e. those of you who decided to keep the system). As for whether or not I was scammed by John's peddlers, I have no doubt. ZERO!!! It was a text book job. I fit the profile for a perfect target, and they gave me the textbook hook-line-and sinker. After getting my money back I did some research and located a site, written by a person who used to be in the business (or still is). After reading the 1/2 of the 4 page write-up I knew what was going to come next because it was like they were using the script I was reading to scam me. Here is the link for those who are interested. http://baroti.homedns.org/steve/van-speakers-scam.html
For many of you, I think this article will hit home for you like it did for me. This is exactly what happend to me.
To John: If you have a legitamite business and are any kind of a reputable dealer, you would not distribute to these guys who give your business a bad name. Yet it is clear that you have had several systems returned to you, under the same pretenses, and you do nothing. As far as I am concerned your business is based on deception, lies, and just plain poor business practices. What kind of buisness gives their customers only 3 days to decide if they don't like their purchase? The kind that knows that that is just about how long it takes for the average person to realize they got screwed, and then screwed again.
For those of you who do not think this is lucrative. You have two guys in a van, who in one day will sell a stereo for $600 that they might have given $150 for. I think $450 for one day's work is a pretty good salary. That's assuming they only make one sale. I don't make $450/day. Even if some people return their systems, they are still way ahead. Just think if 2 guys sell 10 systems in just one month (which ain't many 1 every 3 days) that's $4,500 and all they did was ride around in a van all day and lie to people.

Mackytack.....Your welcome! I am glad you got your money back. Chalk it up to a cheap learning experience.

Interesting point - It's not a scam, just some weird marketing scheme.

MTS are basically selling at high volume and cutting out the middle-man and offering you the lower price. They don't sell into Circuit City and Best Buy that have high overhead and put a high margin on the Sony or whatever product that you as a consumer pay more for.

So many people have wondered how much they are worth because they don't know what to compare them to because they are bought out of the back of a van, receipt and all. Then they go on to say they like the way they sound even better than more expensive systems.

Anonymous

Lalldex,

I think you work for them. It is definitely a scam. People are buying from the same person and spending anywhere from $175 to $800 or more. If the product was actually worth the retail price, they wouldn't have to scam you to buy it. I heard the stereo system. When you turn the stereo up, which is when it appears to sound the best, the notes are not clear and distinct. You can hear a lot of distortion in the sound. Go to the manufacturer's website and call the number to get tech. support. Its a dead end. You call, leave a message, and then wait till eternity to get a call back. The stereo is a POS. By the way, no one who has posted has even owned one long enough to know how long the stereo works before it starts malfunctioning. However, if you have convinced yourself its a good deal, then go get yourself one.

i dont think this is scam.

i bought one over a year ago and it sound great and has not given me problems.

i did call the tech support when i first got it and someone call me back to help set it up.
how can that be scam?

i paid $500. i know i am happy with it and all my friends love the way it sounds also.

in my country people buy things this way all the time. nothing has price tags just what people are willing to pay. you have to negotiate better if you want a better price.

if its scam it dont work or sound so good.

hey everybody,

No...it is not a scam

i use to sell them. it was a great summer job. im back in school now. rocking a mts system in my dorm room.

It really is a good product. we sold hundreds of them each week and 99% of the people who bought it love it. I cant tell you how many times the people i sold would call me for more because thier friends or family members wanted it after they heard it. the more they bought...the better the price got.

The companies that distributed the products really do stand behind it. They were very serious about the vendors giving every sale a reciept. If you did not give a reciept...they would stop selling the product to you. They want people to be able to get thier money back if they dont like the product. There is nothing shady about that.

i now for a fact that less then 1 out of a 100 ever came back. the sad thing is that the people who love the system dont bother to post...just the people who are negetive and beleive me...they are a small minority reletive to the amount of systems we sold.

The word "scam" is definitely part of the discussion here.
What constitutes a scam?
Well, I do believe that John with MTS Speakers has some culpability--though he tries to defer such an idea in his long posting.
If people acting as John's representatives are selling his products, out of a van--without a vendor's license, without listed prices, showing a fake or unrecognized magazine as proof as to the value of the product--in the minimum they could be heavily fined and perhaps put of business.
Moreover, regarding receipts, if one doesn't have a receipt--if they were individuals who witnessed the purchase, that can be sufficient proof.
Would ANONYMOUS or any REGISTERED MEMBER care to respond to this point of view?
Thank you

Comment by Mike Wallburg:
Basically, after reading all the "victim posts" I think if you bought these speakers it was because you VOLUNTEERED to doing something morally questionable (at best) and by doing so were hoping to save (or make) a bunch of money and get a pair of 'really good speakers' at a fraction of the cost. The 'van guys' essentially come out and TELL you they are DISHONEST ("...no plans to return the speakers...") so you JOIN IN on the DEAL!?! Basically you try and cheat and then blame others for cheating you...worse yet some of you are willing to hurt or even KILL these kids who are only taking money from greedy, un-informed and apparently quite gullable people. If their story WAS true, by purchasing those speakers you are agreeing to assist them in cheating the "imaginary" distributor. This makes you as guilty as they are. I would be reluctant to tell anyone at work you went for such a story. Your ethics and moral standing may suddenly come into scrutiny.
If you don't know (or live by) "If its too good to be true - it is..." Maybe its time to grow up and stop being such a "victim".

That being said, sales man or not, dishonesty is never an excuse as a sales pitch. The company's profit revolves around lying and deception which says a lot about its credebility.

In conclusion, as a customer (that just spent $300 on a 3100 unit, I feel I'm just a guilty as the salesmen.

I bought this system in Oxnard ca infront of home depot for 240$ I was skeptical untill I've read this forum.. Hey to me the system sounds great... I never had a home theatre before.. Movies are better this way used to play them on my playstation. You guys that are saying its a scam, just listen to it. If you still thought it was a $3000 dollar system you'd be braggin to your friends about it. And how much you saved. I feel that I bought a product for what its worth. Sure they sold it too me out of a van in a parking lot. They told me it was worth 3000 dollars. All I can say is I've had no problems this far and it sounds great. I'd sure like to know what it actually costs them to make them. But really do you think any of the High end electronics you find out there cost thousands of dollars to make... No they don't it costs that much because you'll pay that much.. As with any product out there. I served in the military for 10 years and found out cost is relative to the area where the product is sold. For instance you can buy a 40,000 dollar SUV in Southern California or you can buy the same SUV in South America for 15,000 dollars. If you like the product you bought you didn't get ripped off. If any sale guys wanna contact me please do.

Hey Anonymous,

Get over it. The word "Scam " is NOT part of the discussion here. It is NOT a scam. We ARE licensed vendors. We can NOT be heavily fined and we can NOT be put out of business. It is our right to sell a product at whatever price we see fit and it is your right to chose whether or not to buy it at that price. No one is forcing you to buy the product and no one is misrepresenting the price.
MSRP is a suggested price, nothing more.
what are you comfortable paying?...$500...$600...$1000 or maybe nothing at all. In any case your getting an awesome system at an awesome price.

If you dont like the price...dont buy it.

if you dont like the system... bring it back.

Be accountable for your descisions and stop acting like such a victim...

GET OVER IT.

Theater Innovations....

Okay.

Let me help everybody out here. Whether the sale of these audio products is a scam or not, the bottom line is that the products are TERRIBLE. I have been approached by the guys in the van in front of Circuit City several times. I have a friend who actually purchased a pair of T-1650 speakers from one of these white vans. He was not happy with them after getting them home and trying them for himself, and on a pretty decent system, I might add (Harmon Kardon products. Not the best, but good enough).

I heard them myself, and he asked me to take the speakers apart and check them out. Why, you may ask, would I be qualified to analyze these speakers? Well, I'm a professional audio engineer and musician. I have built speakers myself. And I've checked out Theater Innovations' "website". Here are the posted specs for the T 1650s:

System Features:

400 Watts * High Efficiency 7-Way Design
High-Gloss Piano Lacquer Finish
Max SPL: 100 dB
Custom Crossover Circuitry
True Stereo Imaging
Signal To Noise Ratio: > 90 dB
Channel Separation: 70 dB

Let's break this down real quick:

400 watts 7 way design. There is no such animal as a 7 way design. Why would a speaker separate sound into 7 different crossover frequencies? That's just stoopid on so many levels. I remember back in the day Infinity speakers had these huge speakers that cost thousands of dollars, and they had at most a 4 WAY CROSSOVER!! Do the figgurin'...

High Gloss piano lacquer finish. Looks good from the outside. I'll let you guys know what I see inside in a few days.

Max SPL 100 db. SPL is a measurement used for speakers. Check.

Custom Crossover circuitry. That can mean anything. A $2000 pair of speakers should have a little more detail on their website about the workings of a "custom" crossover. Hmm.

True stereo imaging. Another phrase used to describe speaker performance. Is it true for these speakers? No way.

Signal to noise ratio. Uh...that measurement only applies to electronic equipment, not speakers. Hmmm again.

Channel separation. SPEAKERS DO NOT HAVE CHANNEL SEPARATION!!! That measurement applies to amplifiers, tuners, receivers, etc. NOT SPEAKERS!

So, we have $2300 speakers for sale, online (and at a white van near you), and you can't hear them. So, where are the important specs? Like...oh...FREQUENCY RESPONSE?! CROSSOVER FREQUENCIES?! IMPEDANCE?! RESPONSE CURVES?!

Scam? Judge for yourselves. Go check out other REAL high end speaker websites, such as http://www.nhthifi.com/products/four.html.

These things are laughable, and I haven't even opened them up yet. More to come...

I've been using the MTS-3100 Home Theater system for about a week now and I think the MTS-3100 sounds pretty good and the DVD image quality is exceptional for the amount I paid. I bought the MTS-3100 Cinema Series Home Theater system for $ 260 from a couple of guys out of a white van at a bank parking lot in Irvine, California, just like most who have posted here. The sellers gave me the same sales pitch that the system's MSRP was $ 2995, that they were trying to sell some excess units and showed me the ad in HDTV magazine (current issue in bookstores Feb/Mar 2006?). They first offered to sell the system to me for $ 600 but haggled the price down to $ 260. At first, like many, I felt I was just duped into buying a worthless product. I took home the system expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised.

Granted, just like everybody else, my taste/perception is subjective, so I'm posting this simply to share my thoughts and observations; not to promote the product. Here are my observations on the system performance:

GOOD:
=====
-excellent DVD video picture from an S-video connection to an old Sony 27" CRT TV. Nice contrast, vivid colors, good resolution, almost film-like. I have an old Sony non-progressive scan player and the picture difference between the two is dramatic. Had to change the DVD player's settings (TV display) to Letterbox (since the DVD was in letterbox format) to keep the picture from blanking out during the opening sequence of Star Wars Ep. II. Since progressive scan signals don't normally transmit via an S-video connection, I have to wonder if the player has line doubling circuitry to achieve the 500 H. line resolution that the documentation claims. I have to wonder what the picture quality would be on a widescreen HDTV.

-excellent surround sound from the 5 satellite, 1 subwoofer setup. The center speaker repro'd screen dialog quite well and the highs from the front speakers were crisp. The subwoofer produced thunderous bass in movie mode, but was not as punchy when playing music CD's compared to my old Bose AM-5 system. This player comes with a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, which doesn't normally come with players at this price. It also has a built in karaoke feature with 2 mike inputs, although I have not tested this.

-DVD player connects to the speaker system via a single cable from the Dolby 5.1 RCA jacks... simplifies wiring a lot!
-5 satellite speakers are small and magnetically shielded so they don't interfere with my TV image.
-automatic speaker power-on is convenient (turns speaker power off when there's no input signal) but don't know if frequent on/off cycle could damage the speaker drivers.
-DVD player has a thin profile

BAD:
====
-DVD player's front panel is made of cheap ABS plastic and the disc loading tray doesn't allow for easy placement of the disc--a portion of the disc has to be inserted into the tray cavity.
-DVD remote is cheesy. Some buttons occasionally get stuck when pressing too hard. Button layout can be confusing and same-size buttons make it hard to remember button functions without reading the labels.
-DVD player can only be turned on from the remote; the power button on the player fascia only puts it in standby mode.
-separate remote for the speaker system; would be nice to have one remote control the entire system.
-documentation on the manuals has some typos and specifications are not detailed enough; there is no info as to who manufactures the product or where it is made.

FINAL VERDICT:
Pretty good DVD picture image and surround sound reproduction for $ 260. The items I noted in BAD above could be much improved upon. The selling strategy is a different matter altogether. I think, mostly, the two guys who sold me the product out of their van were just ignorant of the quality of the product they were selling and there's no excuse for resorting to phony stories in order to make a sale.

To the people who sell the MTS-3100, please be informed about the products you are selling... listen to them, test them... and stick to the product's merits when selling. There is no need to resort to deception when making a sale if the product you are selling has merit. How 'bout even demoing the product right out of your van using portable DVD players. If people see the system's capabilitites relative to its price, I don't think you'd have trouble selling these systems. Be honest about your pricing and assure customers that they can return the goods and get a full refund if they're not happy with it (100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back).

BTW:
-The MTS ad in HDTV magazine is for real (current issue). Just look at the advertiser's index at the back pages. You can find the mag at Barnes and Noble, Tower records, etc.

-Check out this site: http://www.rjtech.net/desc_RJ-4100.htm
This DVD player is awfully similar to the MTS-3100's. Makes me wonder if MTS OEM's with this company.

-Those of you who live in Southern California, check out this store:

http://www.yawaonline.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=YO&Product_Co de=RJTECH_RJ-4100&Category_Code=DVDP

Well I did a little checking online, it appears the phone number they gave me on the receipt is correct, so it looks like the above posts were correct to say they're a "legit" business. I'll give them a call today and see if I hear back. If not, I'll be making a trip to their location. I also found an ad in the wanted ads which was hiring for the guys working in the vans, but it had a different address on it, one which I also saw on some paperwork in the van. I rekon I'll head there if the first location ends up being a UPS store or something.

FIX FOR PICTURE FLICKER/VIDEO CAPTION APPEARING PROBLEM:
This is the 3rd week I've been using the MTS-3100 system. The system still sounds great and plays DVD movies well. In my first post above, under "GOOD", I noted that I had to change the player's settings to Letterbox to keep the picture from blanking out... I think I've figured out what was causing the problem. My Sony KV27S42 CRT TV has a mode button that selects the input signal (antenna/cable or VIDEO). When watching DVD movies I set the TV to VIDEO mode. However, I noticed that on several DVD's, on portions of the movie (whether during the intro scenes or during the movie itself) where the image was all black (e.g., fade outs or transitions), the picture would flicker and the caption "VIDEO" would appear for a second, before the picture returns to normal. This happens several times during playback of the movie. I've looked at the DVD help posts thru Google but haven't found one that matched my problem exactly. The solution to the problem was unbelieveably simple: TURN ON THE DVD PLAYER FIRST, AND THEN THE TV. After I did this, the problem went away. Hope this is helpful for those having the same problem.

QUESTION: While playing music on the DVD player, I noticed that MP3 music (on CD-R/W) sounds better/clearer through the MTS's speakers than regular off-the-shelf music CD's. Does anyone know why?

I just bought one of the MTS Cinema Series 2006p speaker sets. Tried to hook up the subwoofer to my Denon AVR-1804 A/V Receiver but there is an input jack for the subwoofer on the receiver but none on the subwoofer. It has a pair of line in RCA jacks and a pair of line out RCA jacks, and four sets of hi level in and out wire connectors. Any ideas about hooking it up to my receiver? This is the only web blog I could find on MTS systems...any tech help would be greatly appreciated!

By the way, I bought my system on Ebay for $200, not unhappy yet. I'm not an audiophile, just an average listener, so if they are halfway decent, I'll be over the moon...

I bought an MTS 3100 system at christmas time. It worked fine except the woofer power would shut down half way through a movie. I payed $320 off the back of the same white van. I knew it was a scam but my greed and couriousity said go for it. yesterday the picture started rolling And I have tried everything but no help. the audio is still fine. I believe the cable box on top with dvd piled on top of that may have over heated the mts box. All i have to say is don't over heat these guys. The funny part is when I gave the kid my money I said "if this is a scam I am comming to get ya" and his eye got big. Bottom line this is a $250 to $300 system (I did not get the tower speakers)

Figured out my subwoofer problem, got the correct coaxial and fiber optic cables for sound, and everything is connected properly on my MTS Cinema Series 2006p. The system does sound awesome on dvd! Only listened for one day so far, but if this is a scam, then scam me, baby! My $200 were very well spent (got mine on Ebay, by the way).

To pd regarding the subwoofer shutting down half way through the movie: try switching the power switch at the back of the cabinet from AUTO to ON (middle position)--this would keep the sub powered on regardless if there's a signal coming in. When set to AUTO, I noticed that it can be too sensitive sometimes and shuts off the power (e.g. while briefly playing the DVD in slow motion mode).

FYI to those interested in getting the system: It broke after maybe 3-4 months... the system wasn't good to begin with, I never liked it, it looked like someone maybe made a copy of the actual system.. we paid $300 for it, what a waste of money!

Bose is awesome, we wanted the latest one... it works awesome but the price of $4,000 seems too much to pay for a sound system EVEN if you do have the money for it... other system can give you about the same quality for much less (about 2k).

Isn't it at all suspicious to anyone that the so-called managers and operators of this alleged business aren't at all concerned that their employees are selling their wares out of the backs of their vans so frequently rather than deliver them to customers? I mean, when is a delivery man ever licensed to sell product for whatever he feels like ($250-$600 judging by this forum) for a $3000 MSRP product?

Additionally, have any of you bought this sound system from a legitimate retailer and not second-hand from ebay or off the back of a van?

My roommate just brought one of these home, told me the story, and I couldn't believe it. Tell me if this sounds familiar:

"They loaded too many of these into the truck, last time this happened, we brought them back and the boss gave us fifty bucks and said not to tell anyone. So this time, we thought we would rather make some money. This system sells for $3000 normally (shows you a legitimate looking catalogue to 'prove' this), but make me an offer."

My roommate is just lucky the ATM only gives you $300 cash a day.
We certainly can't return it anywhere, so we hooked it up. I have to say that the audio is sub-par, but likely to impress anyone who hasn't ever had a REAL sound system. If you want to experience high quality audio, go to a Fry's Electronics or Circuit City or someplace and sit in that room they set up the demo units in. You might have to watch Titanic or the Postman, but you'll see what I mean, and you'll hear the difference.
The DVD player is low-end of the market, the picture quality might rival that of a VHS, but for the price, I suppose it's right...
For Baby's First Home Entertainment System, it's good, I suppose. The bargaining posture of the "salesmen" is highly appealing to college students and blue collar workers with loose morals because it's a bargain. I wouldn't call this a scam in the strictest sense, thought. After all, a fool and his money are soon parted.

Indeed, there is a target market, the young and foolhardy whose common sense get overwhelmed by thoughts of the ultimate bargain.

However...Fry's and Circuit City do not equate to high quality audio, nor are their set-up and demo rooms conducive to what you will hear in your own space.

I got the system yesterday. I was in a hurry when I researched it and saw it on the mts website for $2995. So I offered him 350 and he took it. I made him hook it up for me to make sure it worked, it did but I was not very satisfied with the sound. I thought, if it retails for 3000 then I could pawn the stuff if I didn't like it. I looked it up again after the deal was done and found this forum. After reading what people say, I called the guy back. He arranged to meet up with me today and hook it up properly. As soon as he showed up I told him no need, I just want my money back. Me and my friend (who bought some speakers off him) followed him to the bank where he gave us our money back. Except for 10% which he kept for re-stock/hassle fee. Long story short, we got the money back fare and square and the guys in the van claim there is no scam except for this forum. Oh well, I was not very impressed with the sound I was hearing. The guys seemed alright, a little scetchy but they gave us 90% of the money back. We were not rude in any way to them, just said we can't afford it and want a refund. They were particular about all the plastic being there and styrofome and stuff. So I don't know if it is a scam or not, but I will buy from stores from now on

Los Angeles - CA I'm in the process of getting a new supwoofer. The one I got with the MTS 3100 system blew a fuse after 5 months. Replacing the fuse didn't resurrect it. I called the tele# on the receipt, they referred me to tech support. I called and told them of my problem and they said the subwoofer would be replaced if I paid $15.00 shipping. I just mailed the warranty card, a copy of my receipt and a check for $15.00. Let's see how this pans out. I'll give them two weeks then I'll post all the names, numbers and addresses. Might be good money after bad, but the positive results some of you've had prompted me to "not" turn this thing into a door stop.
BTW - bought it the same way in the parking lot at the local BlockBuster. $500 for the MTS 3100, ouch. You've all been a big help.

anyone in colorado get scammed, check this out.

On 7/7/04, I was shopping at a King Soopers store on 120th and Colorado Blvd. in Thornton, Co. As I was walking to my truck, two guys in a white Chevrolet Astro van (Frankie and Ryan) selling Millennium Theater System home theater speakers, approached me. They desperately wanted me to buy some speakers. I tried to walk away multiple times, but they kept luring me back. Our transaction lasted an hour.

I hesitantly purchased from these two guys (Ryan and Frankie) one MTS Cinema Series 2006P speaker system for a negotiated price of $300. I was told that I had three days to return the speakers for a full refund for any reason, and this statement was also made on the back of the receipt that I received, so I figured "What could go wrong?" They were laughing hysterically as they drove away, so I did some research following the transaction and quickly realized that everything was wrong!

I tried to call the business phone number and fax listed on the receipt. For both numbers, the phone rang about six times, and then went to voice mail that was generic in nature. Nothing in the recording identified the number as belonging to "Rocky Mountain Home Theater Distributors", which was the name of the company listed on my receipt. I left a message, but I received no reply. I had gotten Frankie's cell phone number during the transaction, but he declined my call every time I called, and he didn't return either of my two messages. I emailed the company using the address on their web page, but quickly received notification that the email address was bogus.

When I got off of work on 7/7/04 at 9:45 p.m., I attempted to find the location listed on my receipt as the address of "Rocky Mountain Home Theater Distributors" so that during their normal business hours, I would know where to go to return the speakers. The business name and address listed on the receipt was:

Rocky Mountain Home Theater Distributors
7450 W. 52nd Ave., #289
Arvada, CO 80002

I found a strip mall located at the address listed above, but didn't see #289. All storefronts at this location had units designated with letters, not with numbers.
I got home and performed a reverse address search on http://dexonline.com/ for the business number listed on my receipt. I found the following company on the Qwest website: "Rockymountain Home Theatre Distributors", noting the discrepancies between information on my receipt and Qwest, at the address of 6260 W 52 Av Arvada, CO 80002. I arrived at the location of 6260 W 52 Av on 7/8/04 at around 12:30 p.m. I saw unit #s on storefronts, but not #289 as listed on my receipt.

I asked a business owner at that same location if he knew from which unit "Rockymountain Home Theatre Distributors" was doing business. I was directed to unit #112. Nobody was present in unit #112, and the door was locked. No signage inside or outside of the unit identified the occupant's business name. I was told that employees worked at unit #112 between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. They would load white vans with boxes and head out for the day. They would arrive back at unit #112 between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., unload boxes from the vans and back into unit #112, and then leave for the day.

I went back to unit #112 on 7/9/04 at 6:45 a.m. I had to wait for about an hour and a half for the first employee to arrive, Frankie, one of the guys that sold me the speakers. He had a newspaper and he sat on the ground. I wanted to make sure that he was indeed one of the guys that sold to me the speakers, so I called him on his cell phone. He stood up, looked at his phone and declined my call. He had no idea that I was watching him from just a few yards away. He went back to reading his paper until others arrived, including three guys in a BMW. They all entered the office, took a few minutes to group (blast some music and chant). They then began loading four white Chevrolet Astro vans with boxes of speakers.

I walked into the office. One of the guys from the BMW was startled to see me and began stuttering, asking me what I needed and where I got the speakers. I handed him my receipt and told him that I was there to get a refund. He asked me if I had even tried them. He said that he couldn't believe that I was passing up such a once in a lifetime offer to own these amazing speakers at such a ridiculously low price. I told him "Nope. I had found information on the web about their scam and wanted a refund."

He took my receipt and went through a door, closing it behind him. He came back about ten minutes later. He said that his drivers were independent contractors and that I would have to find them to get a refund. I told him that the driver/seller was there in the back office and that he had refused all of my calls. He suddenly got a worried look on his face, then he took out a wad of cash and peeled off $280, citing that he would keep $20 for restocking fees. The receipt said that I was entitled to all of my money back as long as I returned the merchandise was in the same condition as when purchased, and within three days of purchase. I argued for a few minutes, but then took the $280 cash, feeling pretty lucky.

If their speakers are worth so much, then why are they selling them out of the back of a van? They have no literature showing why their speakers are superior to other speakers. They just say it and you are just supposed to accept it. They give out mostly false information about the company so that buyers won't be able to find them and get a refund. Their vans don't advertise the products. Their office doesn't advertise the products. Yet they seem so proud of these speakers. There are dozens of web pages dedicated to spreading the word to the public about this scam. They all have testimony about the poor quality of the speakers and the tactics used to sell them.

Shame on me for falling for this scam, but at least my internet skills, detective work and determination got me my money back, minus $20 restocking fee and fuel used to drive to find their office. I feel sorry for those that have lost money this way, and will continue to lose money this way. This documentation is my part to spread the word about this scam, and show how victims might follow these steps to find the actual business address and get that refund.

Hey Info mation, did you try the system out? I'm just curious. I bought the MTS Cinema Series 2006p system on ebay and it seems pretty terrific to me. With DVD it seems phenomenal, anybody that hears it raves...was just wondering...I have no opinion on the scam aspect, just wondered if you had listened to them...

No, Mr. Kaplan, I swear I do not work for these guys. (If I did, I'd probably write much longer and more defensive, maybe even derogatory emails like these who claim to work for them on here). I'm just somebody who bought my system on Ebay and found that it sounds excellent. It's not that great with music, but with DVDs it is awesome. Some of the people on this blog seem to agree...I check back from time to time to see if I can in fact expect my system to crash on me in the near future...I bought it because I had just gotten an expensive HD Plasma TV, a new DVD player with progressive scan and a new Denon A/V Receiver, so I was trying to save some bucks yet still get good movie sound. If you figure out how to hook it up properly and get fiber optic or coaxial audio cables (if you are using an A/V Receiver) you might improve sound quality a good deal when watching movies, and get all the speakers to work too! Who knows, my system might stop working after another couple of months too, but I hope not!

Rob, I paid $200 on ebay for them. If they really are as cheap as you say, I don't see how they produce such incredible movie sound, but they do. It's an amazing experience watching a DVD with these things, one of my friends commented on how awesome they are as well...I'm just praying they don't stop working soon...mine is the MTS CInema Series 2006p...good luck, but so far I'm a very satisfied customer...

hey everyone...yeah i think i just got scammed today but i'm not sure. Same story, two guys, overstock of MTS-3100 & stand alone speakers MSP at 5000 paid 650 for it. from what i gather it can go either way, i'm gonna hook it up tonight after work (they approached me during my lunch break in a wendy's parking lot) and see if they are any good, first time i got scammed, oh well, first time for everything. But hopefully they will sound good cuz after i looked up the company on the internet and found all this i must say my morale was shot down. also, this happened down in West Palm Beach, FL....most of these posts seem to come from the NJ or Los Angelas, anyone else experience this in South Florida??

to clarify my psition as of my last entry. I'm not saying its a lousy system i'm saying i got it for a lousy price. for $200-$300 bucks its not bad its not bad at all. I paid a whopping $800 bucks for mine and tanked my brother and a friend with me. For that price it doesn't even have a 5-dick changer. What a jip if any. Caveat Emptor=BUYER BE WARE.

I was scammed for $800.00 yesterday afternoon. I faxed a cancellation into New Englnd/s office and have made numerous calls to John, as well as to Pete Griffin, his "salesman." Pete told me I could not get my money back through him (Pete) but had to contact John. John has yet to respond to my fax or phone calls. Given the circumstances surronding my transaction, if I don't hear back from John this morning I will be filing a police report.

Yes I experience the same thing in South Florida (Davie, FL)!!! I was getting out of work at 5PM and two guys in a white van approach me with these systems that they were overstock of... I went inside of my office again and checked the web site... I saw it for $3000 and I thought I was doing the deal of my life... I paid $255 for each of them (I purchased 2 of them) I mean is not that bad of a system... but it does not seems to be a good quality product, plus my $350 Panasonic system sounds way better... So, BEWARE in south Florida... Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

Although I had to make two trips to Marlborough, I did, in due course, catch up with John. Apparently, he was in the Dominican Republic over the weekend. After I made initial contact with him on Monday we scheduled a time to meet yesterday and ultimately arrived at an equitable resolution.

I will file this in the "Lessons learned" folder. Hopefully, this will be the last impulse buy I ever make. Bottom line for me is, I was not in the market for a new home theater system. Negotiator, Chester L. Karras once said, "There's no right price for the wrong merchandise." Since I never set up or listened to the system, I cannot speak concerning the quality. It was effectively the "wrong merchandise" for me simply because of other priorities.

Has anyone tried the VGA out? I am looking for a receiver that would normally drive my TV, but would be used to drive a Epson LCD Projector via the VGA-out at 1024 X 768 from time to time. Will this system handle that? If yes, I will try to get one cheap off of ebay.

BTW I have a decent set of 5.1 speakers and a powered sub-woofer, so I will use the ones I have if the MTS speakers csn't cut it.

Listen guys,
I worked for these guys for MANY years, the tactics of some of the "salesman" do not reflect on the company that supplies the product. Have you ever met a lawyer that was honest and straight forward. Very rare if you have. Anyway, the systems these guys sell are not a bad deal for what most people pay for them. I'll tell you how it works. It's all about negotiation. The way these guys see the "sale" is they will automatically quote a price double of what they are really looking for. $800? ---They're really looking for $400, and willing to negotiate down to $300.

Truth be told, the company that developed this equipment actually takes a lot of pride in the product they produce, they work hard on it and have been in business for well over a decade! These guys pay more taxes in a month than most people pay in a year. These guys & girls,in most cases, are really good guys. Unfortunately there are always bad apples in every bunch, and some *ssholes that will screw you.

I read a thread that said they eliminate the middle man and all of the overhead of advertising and all that crap, and he's absolutly correct. Does anyone have any idea what it cost to advertise? They take out that additional cost and passthe savings to the consumer...YOU.
Any sound equipment you purchase is going to be equal or maybe a little better than what you might get from these guys. Take solice in the fact that they on-line, totally trackable and willing to compare and hook up these systems in your house before you pay. I hooked up THOUSANDS of these in peoples homes! Only a handful of times did I have to leave said house with speakers in hand. Not everyone likes blueberry pancakes, but a majority does.
I have moved from that industry with an INSANE amount of knowledge about human nature and the workings of a succesful sale and have moved into a 6 figure a year job, with a family. To this day, I consider all speakermen my brothers and will stand behind their product.

If you buy them, stand up for your decision, judge for yourself, and like what YOU like.

I just bought the MTS 3100 system today, from two guys out of a White Van. They had Jersey plates, however they were in Queens NY. they had a van full of MTS 3100, and their salesman skills were terrible. Original asking price was 600, there was no way i would pay that for a product bought out of a van. Yes they had that catalog with the 2,999 price, which i found useless. If this product really cost that much they wouldn't be selling it out of a van, for 600 dollars. so I made an offer and I had both the guys come over and install the system in my house and i did not let them leave until they hooked up every piece of equipment, It sounds great. I wasn't looking to buy a home theater system, but i got it for $300 and i'm sure i could have offered them 200 or 250 and they would have taken it. One of the sellers was the brain the other was the mouth and the muscle. I dont think i got scammed but the way the two guys aproach the client is very "Scammish" a word of advice is if you see the white van and they stop you. Have your mind made up, to walk away or look into the product. Honestly I just finished testing it all out and the product kicks Butt with the 5.1 sound system. I didn't get a receipt. if i can still get one from the company and any one knows how to get one please let me know. i got the warranty papers and that's all. Good luck to all.

I bought this system for 470$ and it works better then the system i bought out of a store (no need to mention any other brand names..but i'll tell you that it IS well known). Some of these people who posted ARE right...advertising, brand names, and cost of distribution jacks prices up rediculously. Example: "Jordan" sneakers are made exactly the same as any other sneaker, but people pay up to 200$ for them while others pay about 60$ for a sneaker of the same quality.

I contacted my friend who is a police officer and he informed me that there is nothing wrong with that company, or their methods of selling. Perhaps one may need a vendor's permit, but who's to say whether they have permits or not...

It is NOT a scam. It is simply bargaining skills. People get ripped off from stores every hour of every day..but you dont hear many complaints because of the false security that people get just because it is a store.

The guy i spoke to and delt with while buying my speakers was a great guy. In fact, since he gave me his number i have contacted him several times to arrange more business transactions to be able to get systems for friends and family.

I feel obligated to share a story of what happened to me so that it may help someone else.

I was approached by 2 guys (Mikey and Jake) in a white van in a Providence parking lot. They claimed to have a "summer job" with New England Sound and Home Theater. They "hated their boss" and wanted to get rid of "high-end" surround sound equipment because they didn't care about the excess inventory -- they were simply going to go back to school and were going to quit their jobs. All they wanted is to make some extra cash so they can go to a strip club and get some beer.

They showed me the ad in some glossy HDTV magazine. The ad had the surround sound system at about $2800 and the speakers at $800 each. They were willing to sell 2 speakers and the system to me for $800. I was intrigued by the opportunity to get an unbelievable deal. I went to the ATM and bought the stuff. They did give me a receipt, which had New Endland Sound and Home Theater's address (Boston Post Road) which is not correct) and a phone number (508-###-####) that actually works. Mikey put his cell phone on the top (508-###-####).

When I got home, I of course wanted to find out more info about the product. I found this website, and immediately knew I fell for a scam. I took the speakers out -- plastic stands and cheap wood. The sound was mediocre.

I called to get my money back. Had to set-up an appointment. John "the bank" Teller, the manager was on his honeymoon, so Rocky his assistant was running the show. I had an appt. for Monday morning. Thankfully, I got the real address from one of the listings above: 41 Brigham Street, Marlborough, MA 01752-5143. It took a little while to find (it's behind the building). When I arrived at 10:30, Rocky was a no-show. No phone call, nothing. All of the shades were drawn and the door locked. I learned from the folks next door that they load the white vans at about 8:00 am and are out of there by 9:30.

Determined to get my money back, I called again and left a firm message for Rocky. He did, in fact call back that night -- and was pleasant. He gave me his cell phone (201-###-####). Said he was in New Jersey and would waive the 15% restocking fee if I came the next day. I went back and the door was locked, shades were pulled. I called his cell phone and he let me in.

Inside, there is a cheap looking sitting area with a vinyl couch and the MTS 3100 system set-up with the two speakers. In the back room, there is his office, smoky with cigarette butts in the ashtray, alcohol in the corner, and through a window, one can see about 50 units stocked against the wall.

He did gave me my money back. There was another guy who came in the morning and also got $600 back.

I learned a few things through a conversation with Rocky:

1. The product is actually cheap and these guys load trucks every day at 8 different locations around the US to sell it at a significant profit.

2. The HDTV catalog has a glossy ad. The MSRP is for "identification purposes." The product is worth nowhere near what they advertise.

3. The product, even though it has an American flag on the box, is mass-produced outside of the US, imported and distributed to the 8 centers.

4. The product is sold to "venders" who are kids in their early 20's who load them into white vans and sell them wherever. Each of the kids has their own sales pitch to sell the product. They are give an $200 bonus if they sell more than 10 per day.

5. The kids make about $1000 per week selling the product.

6. I was lucky to get my money back. You need to be persistent.

The long and short of the story is: if it sounds too good to believe -- it probably isn't true. Trust your gut. And, do yourself a favor: if you want high-end audio, go out and treat yourself to the real deal.

HI
Ok, I'm Form North Jersey, and I'm an employee for Innovative Home Sounds. We put 8 MTS3100 and 4 Towers in the back of our van (we have GMC Safari's) and we sell them. We are required to pay $320.00 per system and $110.00 per tower for any that we sell. <br>We are Employees on Commision, and however many sets we sell, we get $ from The company. I have one of these sets, and the thing is REAL nice. It's hard wood and it has lasted me like 4 years now. we have 9 offices nationwide, 2 in jersey, boston, Miami, and some out west. We get these low prices from our manufacturer in china direct. I admit it's kind of a shady business, but the cstomer really gets a good deal. my advice, dont pay more then 600$ per system, and ALWAYS try and make a deal with a system (with 2 towers) or try and buy the truck. You can save a LOT of money. The guys will sell you each for as low as 320 each, not making any profit on the street, but we get commision. so you sell them all on eBay for 400, and you make a nice little profit for yourself. It's a legit shady business, but it's making money for you, and money for us.

Despite the tactics used in selling the MTS3100, I am happy I went against better judgement and purchased it. The picture quality is slightly better than what I am using and the sound is powerful and crystal clear. The neighbor friendly acoustics are a big plus when you live in a high rise condo. The only fear I have is that it may break down sooner than most popular brands and the warranty may not be honored properly. For those who have purchased this system, many may want to return it immediately after reading this site. I suggest giving it a test run first. It is very simple to set up. I bearly needed to use the manuals. The information in them are limited. I agree with "Oscar Shell" (see 3/6 entry) 100% about this product and I am satisfied and will not consider returning it at all.

Hi, me again, according to that other guy. We do use a fake boss's name, our names are real, ask to see Driver's Liscences, we're real people. lol. Most of our bosses are promoted salesmen that opened up their own location. So they are teh shadiest of them all. i recently left teh company cuz I moved, and I wasn't good at selling. Only the vets are good at selling them. We don't sell units, we sell a deal. And the recipts that they give are legit, the address is real, but the address of the warehose in N. nj is 1121edgewater ave., unit 1, riveredge, NJ. I'll clear up any more questionalble things for you guys, just ask.

I bought one up in lawrence MA today for $250, he gave me some long story about they have ot many and his boss will sell them for full price ect ect you've seen it already. I didnt by the story but it looked like a nice enough system. Directions suck tho...doesnt sound like surround sound to me considering the same thing comes out of every speaker... might be my settings but the 5.1 light on the amp doesnt do anything when i put that input.. anyone have any suggestions?

5.1 will only work when the adapter is plugged to the 5.1 single input on the subwoofer from the special outlet from the 5.1 source (dvd). TV, aux1 and 2 will produce sound from all speakers.

most of u are retarted and have NO IDEA how systems work. Once again, I worked for them.

ABOUR GAMES IN SURROUND SOUND

The only way to have a game console in surround sound, is have a game in surround sound, and teh concole have 5 wires, not 3, and if it DOES have 5 wires, then you CAN hook it up. But to any retart saying they have 3 wires and the sound coming out teh same, your just dumb.

About FBI involvment

that's retarted, and retarted (again). The systems are bought legally, the only thing ilegal, is solicitation. Any thats only an offence that can be pressed against if caught in teh action of selling. otherwise, your S.O.L.

If your REALLY MAD about teh system

Don't go to the offices, GO TO THE WAREHOUSE, thats the only logical thing. They're a bunch of druggies, and Scam-artists, not big-word-using office people. I know of 1 location that i worked in North Jersey, send an email to HoustDark@gmail.com for more info if you want it. Thats my Email, I'll awnser back.

If you are mad that it's in HDTV magazine

Go to hell. The reason you can get sumthing at a low price is because it's NOT in stores, and there is a LOW cost because that's teh ONLY advertising, besides the online site, MTSspeakers.com.

Licence plate MA-46SD47, cingular phone 617 784-8116

That's our van, and Mike's phone number, he's an a**hole. been there 2 months

Any more Questions?

HoustDark@Gmail.com

I left the company cuz they're a**holes, and a bad job, I'd love to help expose any way I can

I just have to comment on the last brilliant post.

"ABOUR GAMES IN SURROUND SOUND"
I think you mean 2 cables, not three, I don't know anything that uses three audio cables (maybe your confused because the third cable is actually video, but then the 5 cable comment doesn't make sense). I know that some, and probably all, the current game systems (ps2, xbox, xbox 360) come with an optical audio out, which means they all support 5.1 surround sound. Since the MTS doesn't support 5.1 input from any input except the dvd player it comes with, you can not use 5.1 with your game systems even though the games support it.

"About FBI involvment"
I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know if they are breaking any laws. What they are doing is unethical, but not necessarily illegal. If they are breaking laws and the FBI does open a case on them, then thats great news. Hopefully someone will eventually be able to stop their scam.

"If your REALLY MAD about teh system"
Agreed, go to the warehouse early in the morning while their loading the trucks to get your refund. The address they put on the receipts, which makes you think it is their offices, are usually just P.O. boxes.

"If you are mad that it's in HDTV magazine"
They didn't put it in HDTV magazine to advertise the product, they put it there to help convince potential people they're trying to scam that they are getting a good deal and that your actually buying a high quality product. It adds the appearance of legitimacy to an otherwise obvious scam. In order for it to be advertising there must be a way for someone who's reading the magazine to be able to go out and buy the product because thats the only reason to promote a product. As we all know, thats not the case, you have to randomly find one of the vans peddling from a parking lot in order to buy it.

Theres a sucker born every minute, but hopefully everyone here learned from their mistake. I know I did.

thomas rhodes who r u?? ur some flea trainee who couldnt hustle worth his life.....All of u people who r on here complaining about what they bought on the street out the side of a van should all just hang urselves.....your all greedy and u all want want the world...thats why u gave up ur hard earned money, u all thought u were gonna make good for urself off somebody else's mistake, ur selfish little greedy mind scammed urself... the guy who slammed u on that system was just the physical being of ur own foolishness....you are simply a duck, it doesnt matter what somebody was selling you would buy it if they presented the right way, your an idiot!! Just face the fact that ur the selfish idiotical curious moron who actually went up to that van and shook that guys hand, you asked for it....dont u remember ur mommy telling u not to talk 2 strangers?? Thats what u get for buying Sh!t on the street. Take it as a lesson learned, and 2 be honest with u, if you bought an Mts 3100 or 2605 towers u didnt even get scammed real bad they sound decent for what u paid (anything under $500.00 is good, anything over $500.00 u caught a bad one)...u could have bought something that didnt work or maybe even rocks ur so stupid....Take it as a lesson learned

either way the system sounds like sh!t. except for the fact that there are a few more push terminals, it's a glorified set of PC speakers. shouldn't cost more than 50 bucks. the wattage on the subwoofer is almost criminal.

if you want a decent 5.1 or 7.1 for the price, shut the $$$$ up and head to radioshack or best buy. you'll get a decent kenwood or panasonic, even sony- 700-1000 watt system for 200-350 tops.

a decent name brand, with a decent warranty, some with lifetime warranties. and guess what? a return policy.

what were you thinking? all of you. seriously, you don't know sh!t about the market. 5 minutes in a radioshack and you'd know enough to recognize this system as garbage.

i've heard it personally, it sounds like crap.

there's almost nothing amplified about it. the maximum volume hits 1/5th of what i've heard from a 200 dollar kenwood 5.1

yeah, it's a scam.

you might think, well- at least i got a decent DVD player. Wrong. average lifetime for the DVD Included = 30-40 plays. that's IT. cheapest construction possible.

summary- System worth 50-120 dollars (As a bundle)

center speaker, 10 dollars maximum.
subwoofer, (Absolute garbage) (i've heard better retailing for 35 dollars)
satelite speakers, 10-15 dollars each.

cables included? not worth a cent. 200 ft. for 2-3 dollars. Retail.

why is it that as soon as someone hears "Surround sound" their testers jump into their ears?
you had a bad day.

radioshack, best buy, what have you- will make it better with (on average) Half the price you paid for these units.

Summary: system worth 120-ish dollars. (a generous a$$essment)

best buy or radioshack wouldn't even bother stocking it. kenwood, panasonic, sony, Reputable brands, offering better sound- and actually standing behind their products, for roughly half the price.

insert tail between legs and get your arsh to a retail store. best buy or radioshack.

you're absolutely right. optical is the only way this system COULD support the 5.1

yet, it doesnt.

they set it up so that the DVD player was supposed to act as the main reciever, just like many home theater systems. yet it can't control the volume, and it can't output normal TV (or anything else for that matter) to your speakers.

one more thing... i don't even believe that this system is 5.1 surround. i've heard it. it seems to come from every place at one time. like, stereo- as in Right and Left. note: i've had more experience with the MTS-2300 than the 3100.

and one more thing, the supposed "5 cables" i should use with my playstation, You're retarded. the other 3 are for COMPONENT VIDEO. Red, Green, Blue. so, the outputs on the back are, Digital yellow, Yellow, Red, white (all your basic composite video) and, Red, Green, Blue, and a host of red and whites.

RGB = Component. (VIDEO CONNECTION)
component video is one of the best mediums to transfer video. i believe it's the best analog way to transfer video. but, i don't really see it being that much of a concern for an owner of Any MTS theater system.

Absolute Scam
I kinda feel badly for those of you who think this thing at least sounds good. I hooked it up yesterday and could immediately feel the lack of quality. Put a CD in it, put a DVD in it, started squealing like a pig. Sometimes it plays for a minute or two before the squeal. Sometimes the 'open' button works on the front of the player, sometimes it doesn't. When working, you cannot play a cd thru all the speakers no matter what you try, it only comes out of the two front and the 'sub woofer'. A previous poster stated that it seemed like a cheap set of pc speakers and he was right. My logitech 5.1 speakers for my pc put this system (3100) to shame, and THEY suck.
This is an absolute ripoff company, with a fake website, fake ads in reputable stereo magazines, and obviously, by the amount of responses on this forum, a fairly extensive distribution (van) network. The most amazing thing about this is that there has been no legal action taken against this company yet. The FBI should get involved immediately, this is fraud plain and simple.
For the owner of the 'company' to state something along the lines of: all i need is to see a receipt and I'll refund your money, when all the sales happen out of a van without receipts is almost comical. Can't wait for the first 7 foot poor sucker with a bad attitude to re-arrange that office and its employees.... please send pics!Upload

ok. this system's wattage is somewhere around 100-200. the speakers, might be better.

i got a look at the speakers that came with the system. they can accept a huge guage of speaker wire. (good thing)

yet the push terminals on the back of the system can only accept a very SMALL guage of wire. (VERY BAD THING)

if the speakers used with the system are too good then they can hurt the unit.

if your speakers are mismatched like this, i have one suggestion- trim the copper wires so they fit. don't buy the plug adapters.

no one will be beaten. by the way.
the system sucks, but 90% of the ppl who got suckered for this DO NOT know of this website.
spread the word.

Not disapointed it replaced my 400W pioneer dolby pro logic system.

Question is my remote is crapping out. Anyway to get a hold of the company to by a new one? Anyone know hauffman's url? phone number? Some company and production plant has to make them for the scammers.

So glad I found this web site! I just bought one of these systems out of the back of a van for $650! After reading these posts, I've put a stop payment on the check and will retun the speakers to address on the reciept immediately. Also glad I'm not the only one who fell for this. In Colorado they go by Rocky Mountain Home Theatre Distributors and claimed they were installers who had an extra system they wanted to sell. One goes by the name of Ryan Kole. These guys will charm you up and down but then, that's what con-men do isn't it?

I bought the MTS 3100 for $500 two days ago in Torrance, CA. I really didn't want a Home Thearter System but I gave in (amazing what two guys in a van can do). My fault I know. I tried getting my money back from the guy who sold it to me named Shane, but after trying to talk me out of it he simply hung up.
I guess I can try them out, but I agree that the product is probably good, just the scum that sell them are low life thugs that just don't give a s#!t. I'll try to see about the Chatsworth address, if I can get my money back there.

not a good system.

for under 300 you can get a very much above average system from radioshack. stop trying to get more for less and work within your means, and you'll get yourself a decent system at a very decent price.

Yup, it's not the Chatsworth address posted earlier, its a few blocks away from that address. Unfortunately it was almost a year since I got scammed and I completely forgot what the actual address was. I know I originally found the address from googling them and finding an ad they put in the paper for drivers, but they also eventually gave me their address on the phone.

When you do get their address, go early in the morning and catch them while they are loading their trucks.

I bought a HTS 3200 the other day from some guys in a white van. They hooked me with the same story as everyone else including the Home Theater magazine. I paid $470, thinking I was getting a great deal. I still thought this last night when I was playing a movie in the DVD. I thought the surround sound was comparable if noth better than a Bose 3-2-1 system that I owned. But I'm definitely not an expert on sound systems. Anyways, I felt like it was worth the money until I found this forum this morning and now I know I paid too much. I noticed a few people were able to get refunds but has anyone tried getting some of the money back. I'd like to keep the system and try to get $200 or so back. Anybody try this?

Unfortunately, most come here after the fact. Thinking how great of a deal they got and getting disappointed after realizing they got suckered.

I bought this system and i love it. Let me tell u my expierence.
I bought the system in a provident bank parking lot from 2 ppl my age out of a van just like site says. When i got home i read the forms on this site and b4 trying it i was pissed. the next day at work i spent hours finding this guy johns adress number plate number phone numebr etc. thinking that the one he posted was bogus. i thought i fell for the biggest scam... i figured this is it im gonna be trying to get in touch with some scam artist who is never gonna call me back and warranty is bogus. this was all based on stories from this site about some shady dark drug addict place. when i read all that i immediatly called john and yelled into his voicemail. now today i feel like a dirtbag. i called the warranty hotline its legit.. john called me back and said how i could return the system and was very nice about it, nothing shady( like site says), gave me his cell his adress and said he would be more than happy to help. In the backround i heard phones ringing and profesionals speaking. i swear i have nothing to do with the company i just know that this site misled me so badly. anyways after i got call back i went home and set system up. i was surpised as hell. i have 5 speakers set up around my living room that look very high end and fit nicely. the sound was loud! the subwoofer hit hard and clearly the speakers all worked sumulatniously. i watched planet of the apes and with the capsule floating through space it sounded like it was coming from all corners. The remotes came with batteries and worked to control the tv and each individual speaker.I cant wait to get out of work and play with it some more. My girlfreind sent me an email about it how is my hubby and his new system. every1 loves it. anyways i just called john back and apoligized for jumping the gun and for the price i paid 300 this system is great. i agree with what he said: if millenium spent as much on advertising as bose did we would pay 2000-3000 with a smile on our face. either way maybe some of the ways transactions go through may not be to professional but their are rotten apples in every bunch and product is more than what it says it is, as well as warranty hotline works and john stood behind it and was very easy to contact. My freind bought oen the same time as me and when he saw this site he put it on ebay immed. i called him over last night and now were hopign to run into the van again maybe to purchase some towers and and another unit for him. thank you john. Trust give it a try before u let this site get to your head. And if u dotn belive me find the form john posted all the info is correct.

they give u a recipt with valid contact info on it. i dont understand what every1s complaints are. i think its because they thought they would be able to scam some1 else into paying 1 maye 2 grand for something they thought was worth 3. but either way they paid 300 400 and it works great, so what sthe big deal if u cant cheat some1 else enjoy it works great.

Lakewood Colorado,
Bought the MTS 4200 home theater speakes and the MTS 2605 towers for $500! Of course form two dudes in a van at the Starbucks @ 1st & Wadsworth. The head punk was very freindly and believable with howdy dudy hair style. His side kick looked like he was scared to death. I just figured it was becasue howdy dudy was selling thier companies stolen merchandise on there lunch break. It was probably just his first day working the scam.

Yes, they told me it was an order overage from an installation....which I knew meant stolen. I don't believe I deserved to be scammed, but if it was a legitimate story I was taking part in the wrong thing and deserved to be punished. So i guess the punishment could have been worse...I could have been arrested for recieving stolen property. As it turns out I recieved bogus property.

Let's talk performance. I hooked up the MTS 2605 towers to my Yamaha reciever and replaced the 9 year old speakers. I think they sound a lot better. I hooked the MTS 4200 theater system to my Harman Kardon a/v replacing Kenwood speakers. I don't have any testers ect. just my ears but it sounds pretty good and clear. I just hope the speakers last longer than some of the DVD's these guys sell. Does anyone have performance data on speakers after extended use?

Complaints-
-1.After the system is turned off I heard two low pops form the sub within 20 minutes. I turned the system back on and it sounded fine but I don't know why it would do that. Any suggestions???
-2.I allowed myself to be bambozeled by howdy dudy due to the fact they showed me the January edition of HDTV etc. magazine with the MSRP at $1895 and $895 ea. for the towers. That is really what closed the deal for me. So in that respect I feel scammed.

I am going to be looking for howdy dudy and his wimpering side kick. I think my freinds right and lefty need to them as well.

After spending an hour reading every post on this board I found a guy in Colorado who bought speakers in 2004 from R.M.H.T. and had their address. I showed up there the morning after I purchased the speakers at 7:00 am. Abpout 8:00 am one of the dudes who sold me the speaks pulled in. He was totally scared shitless when I opened his car door door and told him we needed to talk. He told me it was his second day. The speakers they sold me yesterday was his first deal and he was in training. We spoke for a while and he said he was quiting at the end of the day after he got paid for his training. I actually belived him.

Then Matt the ownerof R.M.H.T. pulled in. I met him at his door and told him I felt scammed. I told him exactly how the speaks were sold to me and that I did not get a receipt. Then Eian the howdy dudy who sold me the speaks pulled in. We had a further discussion reagrading the deceptive way he presented the speaks to me. Bottom line, Matt the owner said that he would give me a full refund. He did not bring up restocking fees or anything. I made an appointment to bring the speaks back and get my money. I brought them back and ending up leaving with them again. NOt because Matt tried to convince me to keep them but becasue they really sounded good. My main concern was that they may blow or something and not last and that I paid too much. Matt convinced me that he would stand by his product even though he does not manufacture it just distributes it. Again, I believe him.

Oh yeah, in my previous post I talke dabout a popping noise in the sub after iwas turned off. Matt gave me a new sub. It also pops about 2-3 minutes after it is turned off. COuld this be the internal amp or somehting. It is really more of a poof than a pop. I wast just curious if this was normal because if not I am going to return the speaks to R.M.H.T.

Okay, y'all got phucked, big time. Deal with it. Bernie is about the only intelligent one in here. He tells it like it is.

Face it, those speakers are junk. Why would anybody selling High Quality speakers (or anything for that matter) resort to hiring meth-heads to drive around in white vans selling their crap? Why? Because it's junk!

Personally, I think it's kinda funny you all fell for it. Ever see the movie "The Sting", with Robert Redford and Paul Newman? Check it out sometime. Y'all were approached by these con men in the white vans because you looked like "marks". Or, to be more precise... you looked like a sucker. And, they pounced on you knowing full well you would take the bait.

Hold a garage sale and sell the speakers for twenty-five dollars. Take that money and buy a bottle and get drunk.

I picked one up about a week ago.Really wasn't looking for one but the price was right! Now Im no big techy head. Hooked the system up.The sound is fine by my standards. The bass holds up very well when I play music in the dvd.No big sacrifice considering what I paid .The price is right because there are no big corporate middle man.The only turn off was the way I bought it.Called the number on the receipt spoke with the manager.Basically these guys are selling on there own terms, manager has asked them to tone it down a little but eh salesman are salesman.By the way I paid a little over three hundred..Still happy.Marketing at its best!!The manager also let me know if I have any problems with the system just to give him a call. And he would help me anyway he could..Bottom line good product for what I paid..Thanks guys. Now Im out to have a glass of whiskey!!

This is hilarious. These guys will sell these crappy speakers from parking lots AD NAUSEUM. Selling home theatre systems from parking lots is a variation of a con that is MANY MANY years old. Posting fake emails about how good it is or making them sound legit is just called BAITING THE HOOK and its just another wrinkle to an old con.

These speakers brand names are being changed all the time but guess what, its basically the same crap with a different name. SAME CRAP, DIFFERENT DAY PEOPLE!

Also, anyone that says these are quality speakers is as FULL OF CRAP as the boxes containing whatever brand of crappy speakers and optional equally crappy amplifier head.

As for the sellers of these crappy speakers, who pretend to be legitimate, pleeeease! Anyone who buys a product in A PARKING LOT and anyone who sells a product in a parking lot knows EXACTLY what the score is, to pretend otherwise is PURE DENIAL.

Its really doesn't take a lot of sense to realize that buying ANYTHING from some stranger in a parking lot is a bad idea. If you do buy ANYTHING from someone in a parking lot, you will only do it ONCE. Thats all it takes to learn the lesson that your parents probably already taught you but that you forgot! Let me save you the trouble. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM SOMEONE IN A PARKING LOT! I feel stupid that I really actually have to tell you that but hey, people obviously don't get this message. I found out the hard way SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO!

PT BARNUM said it best - THERE IS A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE. If you bought these from a parking lot, guess what: YOU ARE A SUCKER!

Update- I have had both systems for 6 months now. When I originally posted 9/07 I asked for some long term performace feedback. (None came) My MTS4200 system is used daily. My family watches a lot of DVD's and the sound is pretty freakin good....rattles the pics off the walls. I really don't use the towers that often (10X in 6mo) but they also sound good. I just checked their website and it has been updated. They are actually trying to sell these systems at the retail prices of $800-$2500. What a joke! I feel somewhat scammed based on how I purchsed them and some of the feedback I have read. I am no techo expert but I keep coming back to fact that they sound better than my old Kenwood and Alpine systems they replaced. I really feel sorry for anyone who actually pays the websites prices!

To SCOTTY, et. al...I understand what you say and most often it is true. However, I am a real customer not associated with this company (or any other company) and I must say that my MTS Cinema Series 6 has amazing sound and I have been listening to it for going on two years now with no problems as all. I bought mine on Ebay for $200, if that makes a difference. Amazing deal.

If I knew anyone buying a speaker system, I would wholeheartedly recommend these.

I am one of those people who tends to shop outside the box. I avoid big retailers in stores, and look for better products at better prices online, (which I usually find). I was skeptical when I bought the system, because of the MSRP stuff ($1,800) and the actual price of $200. But I am totally satisfied.

I wouldn't care if I bought my system out of a van if it sounded like this and I only paid $200...People like SCOTTY will still insist that I work for one of these companies, but I don't. It is possible to fine good deals on good products through other than mainstream means...

Sure Wendell. You have as much credibility as these speaker vendors.

You are one of the few raving BTW. I would bet my last 10$ that you are in on this scam. The fact that you mention the MSRP at all is ridiculous. The only places where the advertising mentions an MSRP is in a BOGUS page layout and in a BOGUS website.

Anyone that knows ANYTHING about retail knows that a MSRP's mean NOTHING - its NOT WORTH THE PAPER ITS PRINTED ON. There is no one or body that governs MSRP pricing so they can be whatever they want to be. A reputable company will not put out a ridiculous MSRP and the only reason they don't put them at ridiculous levels is that they want to retain their credibility.

Here were are dealing with a company that produces ONE product. They routinely change the product (and brand name one the current brand name is burnt and they want to renew the scam under a different rebranded system) based on how cheap they can get them in XXXXX foreign country.

The MSRP has no credibility because the company that produces the product and the method/people they use to market it has NO CREDIBILITY. Anyone endorsing this product I put in the same boat...NO CREDIBILITY.

To the point of MSRP and NOTHING else:

Bose
Pioneer Elite

There are others but MSRP means EVERYTHING with these "price control" companies. If you buy (or sell) these products legitimately you are forced to pay (or sell them at) MSRP.

My son bought the mts 3200 in a parking lot. No, I wasn't there. A year later the DVD player didn't work (no disc displayed). He ended up buying a name brand receiver and salvaged the speakers. Since I'm a tinkerer, I tried cleaning with a dvd cleaner disk and even took the system apart since I had nothing to lose. Inside it's nothing more than a basic dvd player with some dolby circuitry. There's no amplifiers since the speakers get their amplification from the powered subwoofer. Bottom line, for a few hundred bucks you can get a name brand theater in a box system that you'll probably be happier with in the long run.
As for the Bose discussion, the best thread that I read was that guys buy them for their wives. Their stylish, got the Bose name and expensive.}

Just bought the 3200 at a gas station parking lot in Charlotte! My wife was waiting for me at a Starbucks, while I was pumping gas. I feel scammed even though this product might be adequate. I called the number on the receipt in Charlotte and hoping it is the same case as in MA where some people actually got their money back. Any chance of that? I am in the doghouse and need to recoup some $. Any chance someone would buy it on ebay? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To all:

NEHT gets a lot of phone calls with customer complaints on some MTS systems purchased out of the back of a van in a parking lot.

Please do not confuse New England Home Theater, LLC (based in Littleton, MA.. a very reputable retailer/custom installer)with New England Sound & Home Theater out of Marlborough.

New England Home Theater does not sell speakers out of the back of a van.

Thanks!

Look guys I got one too, just like many others in this site, I also have a Sony DAV-FX900W DVD Dream System and bought it at Best Buy, so I could compare the system's and for the price I got the system MTS-3100 it's not bad. I got mine about 2 1/2 years ago and it still works. The only problem I have is that the system is so good that people try to steal it from my house. Thats how good the system sounds, they were able to steal the small speakers and remote control. I actually been looking to replace these items that was stolen. I bought mine for 225.00 in California, so I think it was well spend. The system is installed in my daughters room and of course the sony with my 56" plasma tv in my living room and ADT security alarm system. Can anyone help to replace these items?

THIS IS A SCAM!
Anyone that says otherwise is either working for this shady company or in a state of denial because they got fooled into buying a cheap audio system out of the back of a van.

My brother fell for this scam today in Charlotte, NC. He got an MTS 3200. Same deal. Two dudes in a white van approached him at a McDonald's parking lot. Same spiel. They showed him the magazine ad with the system selling at $2999. They said that they were delivery drivers and had some extra merchandise they wanted to sell. He paid $300. It is not worth $300! I would not pay $50 for this crap system.

He asked me to come over and check it out, believing that he got a great deal. He knows nothing about audio systems. As soon as I saw this turd of a home theater system, I knew he got ripped off. It's poorly designed and shoddily made. There was no way in hell it was worth 3 grand. There's no inputs on the dvd player and no HDMI output. This is not even an up scaling DVD player. And they are trying to pass this off as an HD system.

I did a google search for it and found this thread. My brother knew he got scammed after reading some of these posts, but a few posts swore this was a quality system so we decided to hook it up and give it the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn't have. It was a waste of time. My brother, who does not have an ear for sound, knew right away after listening to the Iron Man dvd that this system was junk. The sound was flat and I'm pretty sure that this system is not true Dolby 5.1. It had a setting for Dolby Pro Logic and when this was activated there was a noticeable improvement but it was still terrible. There's no real separation of sound. It all sounds like everything is coming out of one giant speaker blown out speaker. Adjusting the equalizer did not help either. The powered sub woofer couldn't even match my 10 year old tiny sub I have for my PC. And the picture is horrible and the menu design is amateurish. The remotes are pieces of crap.

Anyone that says that this system is good is either:
a) a friggin liar
b) deaf and/or dumb
c) hopelessly clueless

To sum it up: DON'T BUY CRAP OUT OF THE BACK OF VANS FROM SHADY GUYS!

It's June 6th, 2009. I just got ripped off. I live in Northern New Jersey.Thank goodness, i took the receipt and the guys number. As soon as I looked this unit up online, I ran into this website. OMG. The sales guy was so nice to me in person, and when I called him to tell him that I wanted no part in this, he turned into the nastiest person you can imagine. He even cursed at me and told me that he didn't have to even pick up his phone anymore. He told me to call the number on the receipt if I wanted a refund. So I asked him, why would they give me a refund, if I didn't give them the money, and he said that that was how it worked. Then the guy hung up on me. Well, I did call the number on the receipt, and I spoke to John (Yes, John) his "supervisor". When I explained to him what happened, the info on the website, and the fact that his employee cursed at me, he told me that he would refund me, the money I paid for the item. (I paid $244.00, and the guy put $270.00 on the receipt) Because his employee was so nasty, he even offered to waive the restocking fee. He also assured me that he would speak to his employee, but also suggested that I plug in the system, so that I could see that it was a quality unit. He told me he would happily buy it back from me. I told him that I didn't want to keep it, because of the bad reviews. Now I have to drag this thing half an hour from where I live to get a refund. They made an appointment for me, @ 10:30 tomorrow. Let's see if I wind up going to an empty warehouse.

I feel like such a fool. I called my hubbby when I was in the middle of the transaction, and he told me not to do it. I should have listened. Now I have to go home and tell him that he was right.

I agree that buying anything out of a van is shady, but I don't think that should be a direct reflection on this stereo system. My local news has done several stories on this and the MTS was never even mentioned, this was a scam that people were people were pulling with many other electronic companies.

That said, I do own an MTS 3100, it was given to me by a friend who was moving cross country and didn't want to take it with him. It belonged to his roomate originally who gave it to him when he bought a new stereo system and I really don't know where he got it or how much he paid for it. Is the best stereo I've ever heard? No. And I do agree the DVD player and remotes are not that well made.

That said, it is a halfway decent stereo and I would say it is worth a few hundred dollars to purchase it from someone on e-Bay or in a store. One thing I would definitely be wary of though is the remote in the sense that you can't use a universal remote with it (at least not that I'm aware of). Since it is not a well known brand I have never seen it listed as a brand that you can add to a universal remote. Not a huge deal, except if the remote breaks, which mine just did and the 3100 is an older model that's no longer sold, haven't checked yet if they have replacement remotes.

sorry to see so many people went through the same thing. this scam just happened to me in the Home Depot Parking lot in Northern New Jersey (the one right outside the Holland Tunnel, I wonder if anyone saw them at this location). Right after I got home, I was still slightly uncomfortable, so I checked it out online and this is what I saw. Apparently, thousand of people all over the country fell for this trick. At this point, I feel more than stupid to have been deceived by a couple of young guys who looked like they are still in their freshmen year in college. They sounded sincere at this point. Anyway, I am determined to get my money. If anyone know where their warehouse is and how to get in touch with them (they don't answer their calls), I would appreciate it. I will go after these guys if I can't get my money back. Filing charges against them, whatever it takes to have a little payback (the legal way of course). I welcome anyone joining me. Thanks!

Got a call this morning from the guy, John, who Sold me the MTS 3200 System in the Home Depot Parking Lot near Holland Tunnel. John was polite and agreed to return the product. We made an appointment to do so, I will keep you all posted.

If that happens, it would show that it's not a complete scam, and that they do have some legitimacy to their business. Again, I will keep you posted.

Hey, All :

As promised, I am getting back to you on the status of the refund. I got my money back.

Had a meeting with John who sold me the MTS 3200 system this morning. Their warehouse is at 1121 Edgewater Ave, Ridgefield, NJ 07657. It's inside of industrial warehouse/office complex. It's all the way in the back (Unit 1). John was courteous and respectable. He kept his promise and made the refund within 3 minutes. I didn't complain and bi"ch, and behaved nicely. Remember to bring your driver's license. They will not refund without it.

Although the way the sell products is completely unacceptable and very shady, but as least they are not complete scam and they have ways to make things right. Keep calling them if you don't like the product (both their office number and MTS System toll free number). They will call you back.

Finally I want to say I am not exactly proud of the way I fell for it either, for people who fell for it, we share some responsibility because of our own greed, but at least I recovered my loss and learn an important lesson. After the refund, I told John that he is very smart and a great sales person and can do much better than this. Why walk a gray line when you can sell anything legitimately. Well, that's as much as I could say, I hope he consider switching job .

I got ripped off in central jersey about a month ago now. never even took it out of the box. what really bugs me is i was suspicious of it right away, especially after what the 2 "salesmen" were telling me didnt match up. anyway, I have been trying to get a hold of John with no luck. I've left several messages and havent gotten a call back. I live like 45 minutes from the warehouse, so I'm thinking about just heading out one day and staking the place out early in the morning.

If you needed the money for something else, you should have saved it for that. Lol.
I went for this scam a few years ago in Cheyenne, Wy.(from the guys out of Colorado). I would not do it again, but I only bought the speakers (4200 system) and after researching found that I had paid very comparably to a similar cheap set from wal-mart. The key word is CHEAP! This is cheap crap.
The salesmen seamed honest with me when they said they only made $30 bucks off me and were eager to go home. After reading on here, I believe it more. I paid what I thought they might be worth to me at the time . I am glad I basically ignored thier sales pitch and made my own offer and didnt back down.
The point of it all is that when I hooked it up to my Yamaha reciever it worked, and probably sounds very similar to the cheap crap you can buy at wal-mart for much less than what what most on here paid.
I dont believe the salesmen were scam artists. lol. They were just doing as they had been told. Thier biggest problem is that they are too lazy and stupid to believe that life is better and simpler if you just work for your money, instead of taking get rich quik sceme jobs.
THIS IS A SCAM, SCEME, OR WHATEVER ELSE You WANT TO CALL IT.
IS IT ILLEAGAL?
NO.
ARE THE SALESMEN NICE IN REAL LIFE?
MOST PROBABLY ARE
BUT IT IS STILL A SCAM
PERSONALLY I AM MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SCAM CALLED THE FEDERAL RESERVE.
THEY ROB MORE FROM ALL OF US DAILY THAN THESE WANNABES COULD IN A LIFETIME!

All I've heard about this unit are very bad things indeed. Buyer beware, seriously.
Get your gear from reputable sites like Amazon. I wouldn't risk the money and stress, really.

Seriously.... Some made up crap brand name and your paying anywhere from $200 - $800 for it. When DVD's first came out I bought a DVD surround system for $130 (probably better quality than this)

I bought a house phone from a parking lot van salesman before because it was a $10 novelty thing I knew would break fairly quickly and not really be that awesome. Because it's to crappy to be sold in a store, because they have to take returns.

Good rule of thumb don't buy things you don't know about from a guy in a van, $3000 retail... don't you think you may have heard of that brand before. And if you don't know much about different DVD surround systems, maybe you should go hit a Best Buy, and not trust the shady guy selling crap from a van.

Your lucky the thing works at all. How do you return something you bought from a van, wouldn't you wonder whether it worked or not, spending $100's of dollars on it...

Random Advice if you care:
Also if you going to get another (real) one, get just a Receiver; the DVD player will crap out in all of these things no matter what the brand. It has moving parts it will die eventually, year or two probably depending on use. Receivers don't have that problem and you can just replace the DVD player when it dies, or upgrade to Blu-Ray with the same receiver.
