I have to share my computer with my mom and shes the type of person that when she sees "you won $1000000000" in her email she clicks on it lol so Im guessing she is why I keep getting these damn viruses. She had somethin just a couple days ago called System Smart Security or something similiar and it popped up saying there were over 100 threats and to click on it. So she did and it installed itself on our PC. I ran Malewarebytes and Hijack This and thought I got rid of it but now whenever I click on links it will redirect me to some random site until I click the back button. Plus it seems like my PC is lagging on some sites. I hate computers,I wish they were never invented! Its always somethin with em. But then I would actually have to pay for music,movies,p.orn,ect. Damn, its a juicy contradiction.

NOD32 is probably your best way to go.

I've heard about it a while ago, but decided to buy it for both my computers about a month ago. Uses very little resources, and catches just about everything.

Also before NOD32, I used Microsoft Security Essentials. Was a pretty user friendly program, although sometimes was a hog (unless you have a decent machine), and also caught every virus that went across it. Oh and it's free, which is unusual for MS.

Essentials is very good...and also IObits ..advanced system care 4....all free.... and will keep your machine about as clean and safe as can be nowadays...

Ok so I guess I still have something wrong with my POS PC. I ran nod32,malwarebytes,hijackthis and I got rid of the stupid virus that I had but there is still a problem. Everytime I google something and click on the link it redirects me to some random page. I have to exit out of that and then right click on the link and hit open in new tab in order for it to go to the right page. Its very annoying. I have ran nod32,malware,hijackthis multiple times and none of them ever find anything. Now I know something isnt right but if none of those programs can find anything how am I supposed to fix it? Besides that my PC seems to be fine. Im not really sure what it could be so someone help me out please!

Reboot in safe mode. I think you can run those programs while in that state.

I've had viruses that were so tricky that they mimic'd standard operating programs so the anti virus/malwarebytes programs glazed over them. In safe mode your pc only runs essential programs, allowing you to spot the fuggers. I've even had viruses that disabled my anti virus programs and lowered my firewall.

They truly stop at nothing.

And yes, I'm convinced that many of the virus programmers are employed by anti virus software companies. Secretly of course.

Hey, does anyone really believe the mechanic when he points out problems you never had?

Everyone is hungry today.

Well i take that back, its still doing it. I ran that program Brad and it said it found 1 thing and said it deleted it. At first everything seemed fine but it started re-directing me again when I click links. It usually takes me to a site called "real time games.net" or something similiar but it also takes me to other sites too. I cant remember the other ones tho. I guess Ill try running all my virus programs again,in safe mode like Paul suggested and see what happens.

You know what I do in those situations?

Re-load the operating system.

I don't know how much time I've wasted trying to remove viruses, and then in the end when you get them off, it just leaves traces in your PC (usually registry), which is hard to recover.

Back up all your documents, music, and pictures and just re-load windows.

Anyone else having problems with YouTube? Or is it just me? No video, no audio. The page finishes loading everything but with a blank box where the video should start playing. I can still watch the youtube videos embedded in the "stuck in my head" thread here in the OT. But if I go to the actual site, nothing works.

Thoughts?

Add an "s" after "http" in the address to make the page secure.

That will fix it for now. If you don't want to bother doing that every time, uninstall your Flash and install an older version like this:

Close your browser. Go to add/remove programs. Remove both Adobe Flash plug-in/player and the Adobe Flash Active-X (Internet Explorer) versions. Download a previous version of flash which can be found here and install it.

Could it have stopped working because of an automatic Adobe Flash update? Cause I haven't knowingly changed anything. The day it stopped I did a system restore to a couple days prior when it worked fine, and that didn't fix the problem.

Ok this is getting very very annoying. I still am getting redirected almost everytime I click a link when I Google something. It redirects me to some random azz page and I have to click the back button like 2-3 times to get to the original page I wanted to go to. And sometimes it wont let me get to the page at all by clicking the link, sometimes I will have to right click and open link in new window. Not only do I get redirected,Google takes a good 20 seconds to bring up the search results after I hit enter. I do not know what to do or how to fix this. Ive ran Malewarebytes,hijackthis,nod32,and even searched for fixes online and nothing Ive done fixes this. And its not just FireFox, it also does the same thing with IE and Opera. So can someone PLEASE help me get rid of this shitt!

That's weird cause that file doesn't appear to be hidden on XP or 7, I checked. But, I will assume you're running XP. Ok so first try this:

Navigate back to the same place and click:
Tools, Folder Options, click the View tab, scroll thru the list and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, click OK. If the file doesn't show right away try pressing F5 to refresh. (If you have Vista/7 use these same steps but press the Alt button to display the menu bar)

If the Hosts file is there, double click and select Notepad to view it. At the bottom you will see 127.0.0.1 localhost (which is your loopback address, do NOT delete this). If there are any IP addresses listed below it, delete them all. Save and Exit.

Then download and run TDSSkiller
If it found anything, awesome, move onto the next step.
If not then it might be something else and I just typed all this up for nothing...

Next, download and run SuperAntiSpyware
Remove everything it finds and move on to next step.

Finally, download and run CCleaner
Leave the default settings, exit all your browsers, and click Run Cleaner. After that, click Registry on the left side of the window, then click Scan for Issues. After it's finished scanning, click Fix selected issues (it will ask if you want to backup the registry, do it just to be safe).

After it's finished, restart your computer and see if the problem is gone.

Ok so I have a file called lmhosts but when I double click it a window pops up and says MediaInfo v0.7.43 and says this in the window

General
Complete name : C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\lmhosts.sam
File size : 3.60 KiB

And if I right click the lmhosts file and select open with program>notepad all I get is this

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample LMHOSTS file used by the Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to computernames
# (NetBIOS) names. Each entry should be kept on an individual line.
# The IP address should be placed in the first column followed by the
# corresponding computername. The address and the computername
# should be separated by at least one space or tab. The "#" character
# is generally used to denote the start of a comment (see the exceptions
# below).
#
# This file is compatible with Microsoft LAN Manager 2.x TCP/IP lmhosts
# files and offers the following extensions:
#
# #PRE
# #DOM:<domain>
# #INCLUDE <filename>
# #BEGIN_ALTERNATE
# #END_ALTERNATE
# \0xnn (non-printing character support)
#
# Following any entry in the file with the characters "#PRE" will cause
# the entry to be preloaded into the name cache. By default, entries are
# not preloaded, but are parsed only after dynamic name resolution fails.
#
# Following an entry with the "#DOM:<domain>" tag will associate the
# entry with the domain specified by <domain>. This affects how the
# browser and logon services behave in TCP/IP environments. To preload
# the host name associated with #DOM entry, it is necessary to also add a
# #PRE to the line. The <domain> is always preloaded although it will not
# be shown when the name cache is viewed.
#
# Specifying "#INCLUDE <filename>" will force the RFC NetBIOS (NBT)
# software to seek the specified <filename> and parse it as if it were
# local. <filename> is generally a UNC-based name, allowing a
# centralized lmhosts file to be maintained on a server.
# It is ALWAYS necessary to provide a mapping for the IP address of the
# server prior to the #INCLUDE. This mapping must use the #PRE directive.
# In addtion the share "public" in the example below must be in the
# LanManServer list of "NullSessionShares" in order for client machines to
# be able to read the lmhosts file successfully. This key is under
# \machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters\nullsessionsh ares
# in the registry. Simply add "public" to the list found there.
#
# The #BEGIN_ and #END_ALTERNATE keywords allow multiple #INCLUDE
# statements to be grouped together. Any single successful include
# will cause the group to succeed.
#
# Finally, non-printing characters can be embedded in mappings by
# first surrounding the NetBIOS name in quotations, then using the
# \0xnn notation to specify a hex value for a non-printing character.
#
# The following example illustrates all of these extensions:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino #PRE #DOM:networking #net group's DC
# 102.54.94.102 "appname \0x14" #special app server
# 102.54.94.123 popular #PRE #source server
# 102.54.94.117 localsrv #PRE #needed for the include
#
# #BEGIN_ALTERNATE
# #INCLUDE \\localsrv\public\lmhosts
# #INCLUDE \\rhino\public\lmhosts
# #END_ALTERNATE
#
# In the above example, the "appname" server contains a special
# character in its name, the "popular" and "localsrv" server names are
# preloaded, and the "rhino" server name is specified so it can be used
# to later #INCLUDE a centrally maintained lmhosts file if the "localsrv"
# system is unavailable.
#
# Note that the whole file is parsed including comments on each lookup,
# so keeping the number of comments to a minimum will improve performance.
# Therefore it is not advisable to simply add lmhosts file entries onto the
# end of this file.

Ok so I ran CCleaner too and it deleted all my saved passwords and cookies but thats ok. Then I scanned the registry and it found almost 100 issues so I clicked fix. I thought that would help but of course not. I went to Google and just searched for Knu's site, clicked on it and it redirected me to some channel 7 news page,I tried to click back and a window popped up asking if I wanted to "take advantage" of some offer,I clicked X,then it asked if I wanted to leave page or stay on it,I clicked leave and then about 3 more windows popped up,one of which was some fat girl fettish (wow you cant even say the word fettish on here? really?) prn. WTF? This is getting worse everyday. I obviously have some kind of maleware or adware or something but why do none of my antivirus programs find it?

Again I thought maybe THAT fixed it but hell no. First thing I clicked after searching with Google, bam a redirect! This computer is so close to going in the trash!
