Anyone clever at TV/VCR/DVD/CABLE box connections

HI ALL

Wondering if somebody clever out there might be able to help me with TV system setup

Compared to some of these very complicated set ups I have been reading my situation is relatively simple- but I am still far too stupid with this stuff to get it working

We have

a) Quite old panasonic TV (with two SCART "AV" inputs at the back)
b) New Panasonic TV/ Home Entertainment system DVD/CD player connected to
Woofer and speakers (One SCART ouput and several of those red and white holes)
c) Quite old Sanyo VCR- (Aerial type socket and 1 SCART output)
d) NTL Digital Cable Box (TWO SCART type outputs- but came with cables that don't look like SCART leads?

I have it set up so that it all works (think I just connected NTL box to VCR and TV by the cables it came with- then VCR connected to TV by aerial cable and DVD to TV by SCART.

I can get the sound working with all the inputs but I can't seem to record from the NTL box. Also I have to press a "TV/AV" button on a pad behind a plastic bit on the TV itself to switch between DVD/ Normal TV/VCR / NTL feed.

Anyone know how I can sort this out? Mostly would like to be able to record from NTL- doesn't seem to be any way to get the VCR to recognise the NTL feed

Thanks
