I'm in need of a new universal player - and have narrowed my search to two possibilities - the Cambridge Audio DVD89 and the new and untested Harman Kardon DVD 47. Any of you used either machine? Please help me with your comments and suggestions. Many thanks!

I think I would have to suggest the Onkyo - DV-SP1000 over the Cambridge or HK, depending on what you are going to pay. I have seen the Cambridge go for $3000 and up so keep this in mind when you read my comments. The reason I recommend this unit is because it is one of the best performing DVD video players that also handles SACD and DVD Audio and can be had for US$1000 to US$1500 or less.

The Cambridge and HK do not perform anywhere near the same level on video. Now if audio is your primary concern, you will just have to audition them because it is far too subjective a topic for me to comment on.

Hope this helps.
