Need info on Analogue 520 preamplifier

Anyone have any information on an Analogue 520 preamp? It was made by Analog Engineering Associates out of Florida. I picked it up at a pawn shop on a whim; looks like 80's vintage equipment. Thanks.

Hello, I have an AEA 620, I think it's the companion power amplifier. Mine is not properly working and I'm looking for schematics. Do you or someone else have something that could help me?

Thank you,

Giorgio

I ALSO HAVE AN AEA 520. A GUY LET ME HAVE IT WHEN I PURCHASED AN AMP FROM HIM. PRIVATE SELLER.
DOES YOURS HAVE A CLEAR PLEXIGLASS TOP ON IT?
MINE MAY HAVE BEEN A DEMO OR DISPLAY OR SOMETHING.
UNLESS THEY ALL CAME LIKE THAT.

I have AEA 520 pre amp. Bought it new in 1977.

Mine have a steel top. The Demo in the store had a seethrought top.

The company from Winterpark, Florida USA went bankrupt in 1980.

It is difficult to get parts. A very analytic preamp.

I am also since yesterday a lucky owner of AEA 520, full equipped. Excellent condition. With plexiglas top. But unfortunately without any technical data. Is there anyone who have data ?
Thank you.

Analogue Engineering Associates was a Winter Park Florida
company. The 520 came from their address, 520 Park Ave. South.
The fellows who started the company were engineers who
supposedly worked for NASA. I am an original owner of one that
still works, was repaired once, so there is one non original part.
Mine has the clear top (only way I ever saw it at the Park Ave.
dealer who sold it) and original owners manual. I will be putting
mine up for sale on Ebay shortly.

So if you have any AEA equipment that works and you like it, take care of it. Otherwise, time to move on!

I'm Ken Leonard, founder of Analog Engineering Associates, and the lead designer of all the AEA amps. Unfortunately I no longer have access to schematics or parts, but I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone might have.

Yes - a generic power supply of 5 to 9 volts DC will work fine.

Just be sure the center of the plug is the positive terminal. (it usually is)

Hi,

I am Rainer from Germany.

Are you still interested in any data or sheets for the preamp 520? I have a user's manual and several descriptions, also for the 515 prepreamp.

I am just about to change loudness and volume potis to motorized versions. At that, I make the ingenious loudness button work together with the volume button. (I could send picture when I am ready.)

Ken, I hope you don't take that as blasphemy. It is still an outstanding preamp!!

Does anyone know where to get a 515? I would like to test it. At the moment, I am listening using an optimized MCA76 from Ortofon. Moreover, I have a Thorens PPA990 as I am using a TMC63 (unfortunately, the Thorens does not yet work correctly.

Hi Rainer,

Yes, I'm interested in any data sheets for the 520 or 515 you might have.

No problem about making modifications... I'm happy to help with any modifications you are making or answer any other questions about AEA gear. I do not have any of the original schematics-- but I can usually remember most of the details if anyone ever needs advise on repairs.

I personally have two AEA 520's, a 515 and a 620 power amp.

If anyone has any of the other AEA models I would be interested in purchasing them if they are in cosmetic good condition.

Alos, if anyone needs technical info about AEA equipment they can email me directly at: ken at kenleonard .com

I have both a AEA 520 Pre-amp and AEA 515 head amp. Both in excellent condition. Where working when I retired them. Pre-amp has the silver front and clear top and the head amp is a black front. Unsure on value. Found this site looking for information on them. I know someone would appreciate them.

We offer FREE repairs on ALL of the original AEA equipment, including the AEA 520 preamp, the AEA 515 moving coil pre-preamp, The AEA 620, 615 and 610 power amps.

Our website is AEAaudio.com or anyone can email me directly at ken@aeaaudio.com for information on vintage Analog Engineering Associates (AEA) equipment, including the professional recording studio line of mixing consoles and audio distribution amplifiers.

Thanks,

Does anyone know if the AEA-520 preamp will work fine with 100V 50HZ frequency as in Asia? I have a step up/down transformer but am not sure if the 50hz frequency will damage any parts inside

Any information is greatly appreciated.
